Very few migrants built Australia. And those who did were white people from western civilization and Christian countries. There were very few non-whites who participated in the building of Australia, for which I am very grateful. Africans and Asians had plenty of opportunity to settle Australia, and build our infrastructure and public services, before the British did. After all, they were closer. But they weren't interested in the effort or expense. It was only AFTER a convict found a way to grow wheat in our weirdo back to front seasons, and only AFTER a guard started a wool industry, and, of course, gold was found, that Asians got interested in coming to cadge off the white man's initiative and investment.

Even though he has been bailed, these criminal proceedings will be hanging over Ben’s head for years. It looks like the process is the punishment. War heroes don’t belong in political prisons. I remain steadfast in my support of Ben Roberts-Smith despite news of his arrest today. Ben, his immediate and broader defence family need the Australian people’s support right now and I will not abandon him like so many other politicians. Ben was disgracefully arrested in front of his twin 15 year old girls. He will be held in jail for 7 days. He gets just one bail application. If that application fails, they can hold him for 2 years. AFP and OSI have spent $300 million dollars over 10 years to get to this point.
