@akohftw @reddit_lies I had a home bulldozed and rebuilt after a tenant entrenched themselves in it and destroyed every part of it with drug manufacturing and a disgusting lifestyle. Had another drug user tenant break into my locked shed and sell everything in it. It's amazing what people do.

I might have met a total of 3 honest and decent renters. Right below that are the ones that left me with -literally- 3-story mouse nests all over the house. I rented to 3 generations of a family in different locations, and they still screwed me over in the end. This is why being a landlord is a legit business. It has significant risks, it takes a lot of effort, and you provide something people cannot provide for themselves without you. The last tenant I had, after 8 years of a positive relationship, left a place that a crew had to go into with shovels to start clearing out. I once ended up in a car chase, once found used baby diapers stuffed into the air vents, and it goes on like that.

@esri640 @reddit_lies No. It allows haves to snap up property rhey can afford and charge whatever they want in rent to the have-nots. They can then use predatory rental rates to keep buying more properties, reducing what's available to buy for the have-nots.

@_brainzilla_ @reddit_lies A landlord produces the availability of a livable place to reside that doesn’t require the renter handle maintenance or save up a down payment or commit to staying somewhere longer than the lease terms. People who don’t want or can’t afford to buy need places to live, too

Right, so could I. One thing I always push people to do is look for private landlords, because we are humans with empathy and far, far less greedy than monolithic developers. However, I discovered a sad thing that has never been disproven. Renters lie endlessly. I just wish they didn't. Often they don't need to and it just makes property upkeep much harder, and often makes raising rent necessary when it didnt have to be.

I could have made a lot more money, but the number of times I was told I was the best landlord people had ever had was worth it. I'm glad to be done with it because people are really shitty too. Even the good ones.

It’s also better than big business or government owning everything fool
