#WorldFoodDay #WorldFoodDay2023 𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗛 𝗔𝗣𝗣𝗘𝗧𝗜𝗧𝗘𝗦: 𝗔 𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗥𝗧 𝗙𝗜𝗟𝗠 𝗦𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗘𝗦 𝗢𝗡 𝗛𝗢𝗪 𝗕𝗜𝗚 𝗣𝗛𝗜𝗟𝗔𝗡𝗧𝗛𝗥𝗢𝗣𝗬 𝗜𝗦 𝗦𝗛𝗔𝗣𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗙𝗨𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗘 𝗢𝗙 𝗙𝗢𝗢𝗗 𝗜𝗡 𝗔𝗙𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗔 At a time when global hunger is on the rise and the pandemic has dramatically impacted global food systems, corporations are gaining even more control over agriculture than ever. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), the largest private charitable foundation in the world, is leading the way in pushing global agricultural development priorities toward industrial and chemical-intensive models--including in Africa, through their investments in the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA). This video series, developed by @agrawatch and the Alliance for Food Sovereignty in Africa, explains why exporting the US agribusiness model to #Africa is a grave mistake. The authentic African solution is a commitment to #agroecology and #foodsovereignty – the right to healthy and culturally appropriate food produced through ecologically sound and sustainable methods and the right to define one’s own food and agriculture systems. The bulk of the money available to fund climate research about Africa is channeled to, and spent by, institutions and researchers located in Europe and America. Less than 1% of authors of the top 100 most cited papers on climate science around the world are based in Africa

This is a historic stone cross located in Cape Cross, Namibia. It was erected in 1486 as a navigational landmark and taken by German colonizers to Germany in the 19th century, where it was displayed in a museum. It was returned in 1968 and placed back in Cape Cross.
