I'm gonna use this one a lot @dwarkesh_sp @RichardSSutton P.S. Thanks for an incredible listen - both of you - definitely a talk that you need to let marinate in your mind.

There's a bunch of "tech journalists" (e.g. @Kantrowitz and @tbpn) who are just credulous retards and think they're special somehow because "huge guests" dependably come in for their biannual ass licking.

Pride is an extreme virtue. Idk why tf anyone thinks otherwise. So many problems would go away if ppl j gave a shit about what they do and the fact that they're the ones doing it.

do you take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife and do you promise to never publicly condemn her in order to appease the “state” of “israel” for so long as you both shall live

I hope Mira Nair can knock some sense into Zohra Mamdani because what he said about Rama Duwaji, his wife, is so damn infuriating and infantilizing. He threw her & her career under the bus for the sake of his own and diminished her morals & beliefs to appease the Zionists. Shame.

@vkhosla @chris_j_paxton @startupjag @rhoda_ai_ But uh do we know that the same capabilities aren't possible with vanilla behavior cloning on the same remarkably small amount of data? Robotics has taken the real secret of ML to heart (just train on test) and can't really say anything without at least an ablation.

The bar for robotics isn’t lab demos — it’s autonomous operation in real production environments. What impressed me about Rhoda was seeing that level of performance with remarkably little robot training data. Pretraining on internet-scale video to build a strong physical prior may seem unconventional today, but approaches like this are what will ultimately unlock general-purpose robotics.

After operating in stealth for the last 18 months @rhoda_ai_ , we’re excited today to finally show the world what we’ve been working on. We believe we’re on a path to physical AGI with the launch of our brand new foundation model, the Direct Video Action (DVA) model.

For Mahmoud Khalil, this past year has been marked by profound hardship—and by profound courage. A year ago, Mahmoud was walking home through our city after sharing an iftar with his wife Noor when he was detained by federal agents, flown to Louisiana, and then held in an ICE facility for months. In that time, he was forced to miss the birth of his first child. All of this for exercising his First Amendment rights in protesting the ongoing genocide in Palestine. And yet, even in the face of that cruelty, there has also been beauty. New Yorkers raising their voices in solidarity. A city refusing to look away. Mahmoud won his freedom, and a father was finally reunited with his child. Last night, as we marked the one year anniversary of his detention, Rama and I were honored to welcome Mahmoud, Noor, and their son Deen to Gracie Mansion to break our fast together. Mahmoud is a New Yorker, and he belongs in New York City.

If you think AI is gonna kill B2B SaaS b/c it could build better products and iterate more quickly, then you've clearly never used a B2B SaaS product. Most anti-consumer category on Earth.

The leaked memo from Dario is really quite amazing: reddit.com/r/Anthropic/co… "The real reasons DoW and the Trump admin do not like us is that we haven’t donated to Trump (while OpenAI/Greg have donated a lot), we haven’t given dictator-style praise to Trump (while Sam has), we have supported AI regulation which is against their agenda, we’ve told the truth about a number of AI policy issues (like job displacement), and we’ve actually held our red lines with integrity rather than colluding with them to produce "safety theater" for the benefit of employees (which, I absolutely swear to you, is what literally everyone at DoW, Palantir, our political consultants, etc, assumed was the problem we were trying to solve)." "I think this attempted spin/gaslighting is not working very well on the general public or the media, where people mostly see OpenAI’s deal with DoW as sketchy or suspicious, and see us as the heroes (we’re #2 in the App Store now!). It is working on some Twitter morons, which doesn’t matter, but my main worry is how to make sure it doesn’t work on OpenAI employees. Due to selection effects, they’re sort of a gullible bunch, but it seems important to push back on these narratives which Sam is peddling to his employees."

The striking thing about OAI contract with DoW is how many brilliant OAI employees can will themselves an alternate reality that conveniently lets them have their sanctimonious cake and eat it too. We never needed ChatGPT to hallucinate ourselves a comforting figment.. 🤷‍♂️

Ppl love to hide behind "democratic will". Elected officials do not have absolute authority. You are not compelled to unequivocally support every whim, and you are still morally responsible for your own actions. We've democratically upheld horrors since the dawn of democracy.
Sam Altman@sama

Three general things from this AMA: 1. There is more open debate than I thought ther ewould be, at least in this part of Twitter, about whether we should prefer a democratically elected government or unelected private companies to have more power. I guess this is something people disagree on, but…I don’t. This seems like an important area for more discussion. 2. I think the is a question behind a lot of the questions but I haven’t seen quite articulated: What happens if the government tries to nationalize OpenAI or other AI efforts? I obviously don’t know; I have thought about it of course (it has seemed to me for a long time it might be be better if building AGI were a government project) but it doesn’t seem super likely on the current trajectory. That said, I do think a close partnership between governments and the companies building this technology is super important. 3. People take their safety (in the national security sense) more for granted than I realized, which I think is a good thing on balance but I don’t think shows enough respect to the tremendous work it takes for that to happen. Also, I am on the whole very grateful for the level of reasonable and good-faith engagement here. It was not what I expected.
