Where wildfires are common, state #OSHAs have adopted emergency standards to protect workers from risk. In CA, when the AQI exceeds 151, employers have to provide respiratory protection equipment & have respirators on hand. In NYC today, the AQI is 161. No NY OSHA requirements

Overall participation is still well below its prepandemic peak, of course. But that's almost entirely about the aging population. Adjusting for demographics, participation is pretty much back to where it began, and employment is all the way back.
