I don't have time to list all the things that bother me about Murphy's tweet, but for starters: Anyone who thinks Iran's having *conventional* ballistic missiles isn't acceptable--and this tweet suggests that's Murphy's position--shouldn't be president. Obama didn't insist on a missile-less Iran and got a good nuclear deal. Trump insisted on it and withdrew from the deal. Biden spent the first part of his admin insisting on it and so failed to restore the deal. And that's how Trump and Biden paved the way for this war. Plus, Murphy is shamelessly playing politics at a delicate moment in world history--adding to the pressure emanating from the Blob that will make it hard to turn this deal into lasting peace. And, finally: If Murphy can't imagine a world in which Iran's using the Strait as a tollgate is on balance a stabilizing force in the Middle East, he's not thinking very creatively. That last point may seem counterintuitive to some--but, again, I don't have time to write a whole dissertation on this right now. The main point is that this Murphy tweet contains more than one kind of warning sign about his qualifications to be president (unless you're a card-carrying Blobster, but if that's what you are there are plenty of other Democratic presidential candidates you'd like--all of them, in fact).
