@CrotalusSzn an individual owner might be on the hook for more or less money depending on a supermax or salary cap, but the total player salary is always going to be the same no matter what.

@CrotalusSzn the amount an individual player makes doesnt change the total amount of salary paid by owners to players its 51% of basketball related income. end of the year, if its under, owners cut a check to players for the difference. if its over, players pay the owners the difference.

@ChasinAssholes oh of course he doesnt act unilaterally. the rule was agreed to by the league and NBPA. but he is the commissioner, he is proposing these changes and pushing them through. they don't happen without him going along with them.

the specific reason the rule is stupid is that voters already took games played into account when voting. it solves nothing and only creates problems when there were none.

the rule is in place because silver is a highly reactive commissioner who makes decisions based on whatever the topic du jour at the time is. people were talking about "load management", so he did this. not even as an attempt to solve it, but to be seen as attempting to solve it.
