Psychiatry and GP/Family Medicine still top the ‘japa-friendly’ list. Anaesthesia and Paediatrics use to be in that list too but pathways are not as available

@Lordkyril I saw shegeeee during pediatrics posting...Intensive neonatal unit. I will go to work by 5am and close by 10pm. Infact the unit had to do a meeting making it compulsory for me to leave and hand over once it is 5pm

@Nrs_Kethz It’s a systemic issue, everyone is doing procedures that they are not trained for. That you know how to do something does not mean you have the competence and approval to do it. Unless the system is put in check, the rot will continue.

Quackery in all forms should be discouraged. That being said, our Hippocratic colleagues are the architects and originators of quackery in the Nigerian healthcare field. I so much want to avoid this conversation, but I just couldn’t. Let’s say the truth and shame the devil. A MO calls himself a consultant, working beyond his scope of practice, performing different kinds of surgeries, and deceiving people. It doesn’t stop there. He trains male nurses to work as MOs while he works as a consultant. They train secondary school dropouts and tag them auxiliary nurses. They do this to cut corners and avoid paying the right professionals. The day these people stop abetting and promoting quackery is the day it will die a natural death. Until then, let’s keep shifting the blame.

@RSpeakshermind It depends, there is a way to deal with toxicity if you leave...but i get it shhaa, Visa restrictions makes people scared to confront it.

Even if you leave Nigeria it doesn’t get better. Other than good pay, I think toxicity is something you’ll always have to deal with in the hospital environment.

Nurses are expected to absorb disrespect with a smile. But the second we respond with the same energy, we’re labeled unprofessional.
