Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (#AQAP) has released a 3-minute 47-second video from its propaganda series “Inspire, Open Source Jihad”, entitled “Why do we call for jihadist operations in Western countries?”, which contains messages inciting individuals to carry out attacks within Western countries, with a focus on what it described as “taking the battle to the heart of the enemies”. The video includes messages of incitement delivered by a spokesperson for the “Inspire” team, as well as excerpts from previous speeches by Al-Qaeda leaders Abu Yahya al-Libi and Azzam al-Amriki. The video focused on promoting what it described as “individual jihad” and “lone wolf” operations, arguing that carrying out individual operations within Western countries is one of the most “damaging and influential” methods in terms of security, politics and the economy. The video also includes calls for Muslims living in the West to take action against Western and Israeli interests.

Reports emerging of a foiled IS-linked attack in Spain with ties to IS-Somalia and IS-Sahel via Morocco - an important signal that shouldn't be ignored. The African threat vector in Europe remains underestimated. (Link to article below)

"Iraqi legal sources said the IS detainees sent from Syria so far include a mix of nationalities, with Iraqis making up the largest group, alongside Arab fighters from other countries and nationals of Britain, Belgium, France, Germany and Sweden." reuters.com/world/middle-e…

NEW STATEMENT ON THE TRANSFER OF IS DETAINEES TO IRAQ by Sabah Al-Numan, Spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Iraq, January 21, 2026 As part of the Iraqi government’s continued monitoring of the security developments taking place in the Syrian Arab Republic, and the repercussions of changes on the ground regarding control over detained Daesh terrorists, the Ministerial Council for National Security, during its most recent emergency meeting, approved, in cooperation with the International Coalition to Defeat Daesh, Iraq’s reception of terrorists of Iraqi nationality and other nationalities who were held in prisons previously under the control of the Syrian Democratic Forces. These individuals will be transferred to official state correctional institutions. The first group has already been received and includes 150 terrorist elements, Iraqis and foreigners alike, who were deeply involved in the killing of innocent Iraqis. The numbers of subsequent groups will be determined at a later stage, based on assessments of the security and field situation, with the aim of containing the threat posed by these individuals, who are considered first-tier leaders within terrorist organizations.

From an October @TheSoufanCenter IntelBrief: "Unlike the metaphorical 'Black Swan,' which is a rare and unpredictable event, terrorist and insurgent-engineered jailbreaks in Islamic State prison camps and detention centers are better conceptualized as a 'gray rhino,' a term that represents a highly probable, high-impact threat that is clearly visible yet consistently neglected." thesoufancenter.org/intelbrief-202…

ISIS attack in Syria killing US troops. Terror attack against the Jewish community in Australia. 5 arrested for an Islamist terror plot in Bavaria, Germany. All in the past 24 hours. But please, tell me again how counterterrorism is no longer a priority...

“Exploitation matters — but reducing women fighters to victims alone is analytically weak. Women have agency in militant movements. If we ignore that, our responses will fail. Accountability must include all perpetrators, regardless of gender,” says the @Durand_Dispatch .

🧵During his recent visit to the U.S., MBS said: “Osama bin Laden … used Saudi people in that event [9/11] for one main purpose …, to destroy the American-Saudi relation. That’s the purpose of 9/11.” My 2 cents on why so many of the 9/11 hijackers—15 out of 19—were Saudi.

As terrorism in Sahel is spreading, Al Qaeda and other groups arming, I do not think that it would be wise for U.S. to conduct overtly offensive and interventionist operations. Working through U.S. allies in the region is the only option.

Last night, a US-led airborne raid killed a senior #ISIS operative in southern rural #Hama, #Syria: Omar Abdulqader Bassam (Abdulrahman al-Halabi), a leading #ISIS external operations planner). I'm told this was the 1st jointly coordinated US-#Iraq-#Syria operation to date.

IS has made a rare, emphatic call for the revival of jihad in Libya - where it has not claimed any activity in three years - playing on fears of threats to Europe, including through migrants. The unexpected message appeared in the editorial of IS's weekly newspaper al-Naba on 11 Sep. IS highlighted the country's "loose borders" and "strategic location" as advantages to link up with jihadists in nearby countries. Beyond its local significance, IS stressed Libya's "international" value, arguing that its "proximity to southern Europe" could threaten "Crusader interests nearby", or at least "preoccupy" and distract Europe with such a perceived threat

Ethiopia is reporting it arrested 80+ Islamic State-Somalia members across the country. Somewhat unsurprising given that Ethiopians were/are one of the largest contingents of the group and IS-Som has historically used Eth as a transport/logistics hub ena.et/web/eng/w/eng_…
