Long term correct sure. Short term in an east that’s weaker than last year when the pacers won the east they are much better than the 4/5 spot. The best team in the east (right now) resides in New York. They haven’t beat us in a playoff series in 2 decades.

The Pacers gambled and lost. Short term - silver lining is the East is still very weak top to bottom and they’re likely a 4-5 seed if fully healthy. Long term - terrible for the future of “what could’ve been”. Getting a top 4 player in this draft sets you up for the next decade. Pacers miss out on that and will have to be inventive with moves over the next few years. Not a death sentence, but very disappointing in what might’ve been. Not going to be Mr. Conspiracy, but kind of odd that big market teams like Chicago and LA end up getting top 5 picks and a chance to stay relevant.

Due to trading 2026 + 2029 for Zubac, they’re now unable to move an unprotected 1st until 2031.
Indiana can legally move full picks this summer in 2031 and 2033.
