At their peak, Germany (Eurozone) and Japan ran surpluses in manufactured goods amounting to just over 0.5% of world GDP. China's recent surplus has been more than three times higher. That's just too much not to provoke a global backlash.

@JonahDispatch Dude, Taiwan isn’t even a country. There is a reason we don’t have an embassy there. This notion that we are supposed to militarily defend a country that doesn’t even, per US policy, exist is quite something.

This is a great example of widget guy thinking once the widget problem is fixed, everything will be fixed. Never mind the democracy erasure, let’s send him to Tokyo, Seoul, Manila, & Sydney to tell our allies that betraying Taiwan will be fine once we can make our own chips.

@Mandhatr99 Well they do try to account for the variation in adoption and claim the timing still makes sense. I think smartphones might be one mechanism of cultural diffusion, so in that sense might be relevant
