First of all, big thanks to @jiminticaI for the really detailed translation and explanation of the situation. Out of everything here, the part most people are calling a mistranslation is the misunderstanding of “the staff joking directly to Jimin” (which is incorrect) versus “the staff mentioning what people call Jimin” (which is the correct context). Other than that, nothing else is really different. There was also no actual denial from Jimin regarding the joke itself. So people need to stop claiming that he was “uncomfortable” or pushing other negative narratives, because he never said that in any of the different translations going around. At the same time, he didn’t explicitly agree with it either. Which means people also shouldn’t generalize every mention of the “eonnie” nickname as misgendering, because those are two completely different contexts. And if you want to debate about it, at least keep the arguments within reasonable boundaries as fans. Not speaking “on his behalf” as if you personally know him and have the right to get that parasocial by claiming he was uncomfortable or denying it, because based on the actual video, that’s simply not what happened. And if you’re aware that certain things Jimin says can end up being used against him, that still doesn’t automatically mean everyone who simply acknowledges or talks about the jokes Jimin himself brought up is the source of that hate. If that’s how you see it, then your pointing is already biased. You don’t have to act superior just to support and love the same person. If something is genuinely wrong, then call it out fairly, not by acting like you’re always the most correct one or the person who knows him best. At the end of the day, all of us are still just fans. None of us actually know him personally or are friends with him. So if you want to debate as fans who like the same person, at least stay within reasonable boundaries. Don’t start putting yourselves above him either lol.
