The Ravens are working to finalize a deal with Navy defensive coordinator P.J. Volker to join Jesse Minter’s staff as a defensive assistant, per sources. Minter and Volker coached together at Georgia St and Indiana St and played college ball together. They are extremely close.

Spalding’s leader is moving on. Head varsity football coach Kyle Schmitt is stepping down after 13 years, he told the Capital Gazette on Wednesday morning, to become the tight ends coach at Maryland, his alma mater. Schmitt transformed Spalding from a middling Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference program into a nationally ranked powerhouse. The Cavaliers have won four consecutive conference titles and are coming off a 10-2 season in which they finished the year ranked No. 2 by The Baltimore Sun. App State is expected to hire Justin Harper as wide receivers coach, a source tells @CBSSports. The ex-Virginia Tech and NFL wide receiver worked at James Madison the last two seasons and was part of JMU’s run to the CFP this season. Helped JMU rank ninth nationally in scoring.
