@_johnchappy_ I agree 100%, I like to keep a couple varieties of canola, barley, and wheat. But all varieties must have significantly different maturities etc.

LR4540P 1.83t/ha. Emu 2.03t/ha. Germinated on 12th April. Vernalisation hold on the lr4540p is too long for my farm for a mid april germination. Might be better suited for a 1st april sowing. Emu seems to be the variety of choice for a mid April and later sowing/germination.

I find seasonal variation very interesting. This block had similar fert, chem, rotation, time of sowing package, similar summer and GSR rainfall as last year. But 50mm in early april instead of early may, 3 frosts and hot days, Estimating a 40% yield drop on last years barley

@Ashley_Jacobs92 I think the full story is in Corrigin’s and Babakin rainfall data. From March onwards It’s has had more than 82mm of useable moisture

Chemical fallows worth there weight in gold in dry growing seasons. This Calibre crop went in on a near full moisture profile and ha only received 82 mm of in crop rain and looked happy all year. Same cant be said about wheat after other rotations.

A Chem manufacturer needs to pick this product up again if it’s possible to do so. Vol canola in lupins just about the most popular query for 2025. Canola seeming to have dormancy for a few seasons too.
Kurt Mcphee@kurt_mcphee

Never used the old eclipse herbicide but managed to find some old stock and perfect for vol canola in lupins. Eclipse 10g on left hand side. Picolinafen 50g on right hand side but looks like it will grow through the picolinafen.

2nd year of Wheat in this trial: On brown manure lupins, wheat, wheat 3.64t/ha On Canola, wheat, wheat 3.12t/ha. All same treatments. Residual N is hanging around in the soil longer than expected, Gross margins starting to close up over 3 years.

Calibre Wheat comparison On Brown Manure Lupins stubble. 3.1t/ha 13.2% protein H1 grade On Canola stubble. 2.4t/ha 9.4% protein ASW9. Same Fertiliser and N rates. 2yr gross, canola stubble up by approx $500/ha from an exceptional canola crop in 22. Might find a 2yr response.

Australia has 1% of the world’s population and 18% of the world’s pokies. Australia also has 76% of the world’s pokies that are outside of casinos. Seems a bit wrong to me.

@NoTillBill Certainly some haves and have nots in this rain event. As a previous northerner I assume you focus your experience from that zone. As a supplier of goods, I assume you would recognise the hurt that continues in others. And understand rain commentary perhaps is not useful.

@NoTillBill And it’s frustrating because many farmers have been seeding very long hours on this late notice forecast. For you to announce and forecast a rain the day before it may or not happen is perhaps erroneous to me. Perhaps in the next few days you can tell us if we made the right call

@NoTillBill Also feel that commentating on a rain 24hrs out and not being aware of the possibility is after the fact posting. In general many farmers have watched these possible events very closely. And have already seeded many hectares on this risk.

Rain has snuck up on us as highly likely on Tues across the WA wheatbelt. Then there might be more in the E part on Sun. This is good news. But if u have been seeding around the clock u may consider having a break for sanities sake. 1 day in 7 is for rest. Weigh up frost risk.

Definition of insanity. Use a trolley Jack to remove the hydraulic Jack from your new chaser so that the first dip you go through you don’t remove it permanently. Hope I don’t need it in the paddock. 🤦‍♂️
