Yesterday, I edited some videos late into the night. I finished around 4 a.m. I was exhausted, too tired to pray. But I told myself I would not go a day without standing before God. If I had time to edit, then I had enough time. Guess what? I got up and prayed. I almost made it a legitimate excuse not to pray. After all, I had worked hard. But that is silly, isn’t it? How is our job, or any other earthly commitment, legitimate enough that God’s deserved worship should suffer for it? Isn’t that the height of rebellion? If anything should suffer, it should be our jobs or the other things we deem “important.” God warned us about this. He told Israel, “You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth.” We often misuse that verse. It was more of a warning than a promise. God told them that Canaan would be a paradise. Everything they craved in the wilderness would be there. But they must not forget Him, lost in abundance. It is the same warning Jesus gave when He said we should seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. It was a warning about serving mammon, about prioritising profit over devotion to God. I have therefore made a decision. Nothing will stop me from praying daily. Nothing. I will stand before my God. Right now, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders are casting their crowns, shouting, “Holy, holy, holy,” day and night. In substance, we are not mightier than these beings. They are incomprehensibly magnificent, yet they bow continually, even now. I share this so you can gird yourself and become serious. Babies move by feelings. Soldiers do not. You are entering 2026. Prove to God that nothing is big enough to stop your daily devotion to Him. Do that. He deserves it. He expects it. To His glory. Amen.

Yet billions vanish into flood control projects that neither control floods nor serve the public. Ghost contracts. Duplicate budgets. Infrastructure in places untouched by rain. These are not mere inefficiencies—they are moral failures. VAT, by design, is regressive. It burdens the jeepney driver, the market vendor, the single mother buying powdered milk. It does not ask more from those who have more. And when the fruits of that sacrifice are squandered, it becomes not just unjust—but cruel. We must reimagine taxation as a covenant, not a confiscation. Lower the VAT to 10%. Exempt essentials. Tax idle land and inherited wealth. Redirect funds from corruption-prone agencies to health, education, and climate resilience. Let every peso reflect dignity, not despair. This is not a technical debate. It is a question of who we are as a nation. Do we tax hunger while funding greed? Or do we build a system where every contribution uplifts, and every budget reflects our deepest values?
