If a woman chooses to take her husband’s last name, they have no problem accepting that as her new name. They drop her maiden name so hard it becomes a security question. But a trans person takes a new name, and it’s just SO hard for them to not use the old name anymore.

The single piece of advice I give new managers is “you will get a long way by consistently showing up and giving a damn about the other person as a human being”. Managers are also human beings, and in good working relationships they get some of that grace in return.

anyways. I’m still working on the garlic essay (an essay about the deep-seated ableism in food culture) and this was a good little reminder of why it’s important. people get weirdly condescending about the tools disabled people rely on in the kitchen and it’s exhausting

@ohjefframos Would recommend any Margaret attwood short story books. Easy to pick up and put down cause it’s a smaller time commitment, and it’s all entirely weird plot mysterious nonsense.

I'm reading a book for the first time in a long time. Y'all got recommendations for stories that have weird plots, scifi nonsense, thriller elements, mysterious bits, and all that page turning jazz?

So sad that kids today spend so much time online. When we were kids we were always outside throwing rocks at one another, smoking, lighting small fires, stealing car hood ornaments, shoplifting, trying drugs... one time I drank gasoline.

I accidentally paid for a @noom subscription after doing the trial and not liking it, and it was so easy and quick to get the charge refunded through their customer support chat. Even though Noom isn’t for me, I respect companies that stand by their product. Kudos!

@apanzerj @dileshnij I think the lesson here is - everybody’s got a time that’s important to them. I’d love if people were able to set up their calendars to reflect that (and have others respect it).
