This evening, I stopped by Adiba, a supermarket on my street, to pick up a few things: toiletries, alcohol, juice, soda, and some snacks. When everything was scanned, the total came to 64,200. Something immediately felt off. The weekend before, I’d bought almost the exact same items (actually fewer) from another supermarket, Renee. So I asked for the individual prices and pulled up the receipt I had saved on my phone. One item they were charging 3,500 for had cost me 1,600 at the other supermarket. There were several differences like that. I politely told them I wasn’t interested anymore, returned every item to the shelves, and walked to the other supermarket. I picked almost the exact same things. My total? 47,620. That’s a difference of 16,580. I understand that different supermarkets have different pricing and buying power. But seeing a difference that wide on almost the same basket really shocked me. If I hadn’t shopped elsewhere the previous weekend, I probably would’ve paid without thinking twice. It was a reminder that comparing prices can save you a lot more money than you think.

Palmpay has been offering free transfers to all banks since 2023, no matter how many times you transfer daily. Recently, they increased my credit card limit to ₦200k with just 0.6% interest. If these three fintech companies; Palmpay, Opay, and Moniepoint or their owners launch telecom services and start offering SIM cards, some companies will lose customers. These fintech companies are too good. Shame on MTN! GLO IS FAR better than MTN now 😢
