Then there’s the silly argument that they’re only playing once a week. Ask any player whether they’d prefer one, two, or even three weeks between games, or to play every three or four days. The ambitious ones want the latter, because momentum is important and it keeps fitness levels sharp. We didn’t buy more players in January because we knew we wouldn’t have many games… but when we do, we build a bigger squad. I'm convinced we lost the games as a result of being rusty. I can' t remember the games - maybe Bournemouth of Leeds - we had twenty plus games off and it felt like we were returning to pre-season. It’s not rocket science.

And any club worth their salt that finishes third does not 'target' second the next season. Wouldn't necessarily expect or anticipate an #mufc title challenge but the intent has to be there with recruitment and chief aim has to be progression, points-wise, in the table.

Given #mufc's starting point and finish last season, (probably) finishing third undeniably represents a good league season. Thought they'd qualify for the Champions League with a top-five finish but since January they've ruthlessly pulled clear of sub-standard competitors.

Zirkzee's an interesting one. No doubting his technical level, he's right up there, can do and see things most can't in that position. The problem is the lack of numbers and trust he seems to have had so far. Seems to be a real class act off the pitch, too.
