After 23 years of paying the rent on time, an elderly Australian woman received the house as an inheritance after the owner's death.
Jane Sayner, a woman from Melbourne, rented a modest two-bedroom unit for 23 years (starting around the early 2000s), always paying her rent on time (about $200 per week) and maintaining the property meticulously, treating it like her own home.
Her landlord, John Perrett, a retired multimillionaire pharmacist (who had no children or close heirs and suffered from Parkinson's), was impressed by her reliability and care for the home.
About six months before his death in September 2020 (at age 86), he informed her via phone that he was leaving the property to her in his will—he even had her speak to his solicitor to confirm details.
