@shashpicious_ Fair point! definitely feel like Figma is spreading too thin and trending toward point where it’s avg at a lot of things instead of being an industry leader at a few. Feels like they’re competing more with Canva than they are with more rigorous design/dev/ai tools

i disagree with it, figjam style tools play in a 20–40b market built on designer seats. ai code tools are playing in the 500b+ dev infra and cloud stack market if they become a visual-first code layer, they sell to every engineer, every startup, every product team
steven hanley@_stevenhanley

@shashpicious_ I think from a business perspective it’s worth considering that the # of potential users for a tool like Figjam is way higher than the # of potential users who are going to be building applications using AI. 100% agree with your sentiment though.

figma has the cleanest possible input any code gen tool could ever need components, tokens, variants, patterns, full design systems everything is already structured its all inside figma and designers are still having to figure out n number of ways to take all this information into tools like cursor and claude through MCPs... figma literally has everything it takes to become a visual first code gen tool and stay relevant in the market but guess what lol instead they are busy dropping features like "emojis in stamp"

@rosettabonez Tank for Arch might actually be the plan. Already drafted stud OT from Texas. Doesn’t make this pick any more logical though…

@rosettabonez There’s absolutely no way someone with a 4.0 and those test scores would quote the definition of collage, not college, as the premise of their entire admissions essay lol

@_stevenhanley I thought that too after reading through it again. There’s just no way. I always find it hard though because you’ll look through a kid like that’s profile and there’s not even a smidge of humor to be found anywhere 😭

What is wrong with these kids? They can’t write complete sentences or paragraphs? Am I falling into some sort of shitposting where these are all AI? I can’t tell

4.0 GPA 1600 SAT 35 ACT Junior IMO gold medalist And in spite of that? Denied from every single Ivy League school. It makes no sense. My head is spinning. And for those of you who love to say “it’s because of the essay”, here’s mine. Tell me how I could have done any better.

@rosettabonez Comes off as a person who thinks extremely highly of themselves, to a fault. And that paragraph with 5 em dashes should result in felony charges.

“copying” also used to be a good way to learn craft but you won’t learn much just getting chatgpt to remix other people’s work on your behalf

i think the world was better when if you wanted to copy someone’s work you at least had to actually do it by hand

@rosettabonez Competitively, maybe. But Pats/Rams 2019 was worse. 13-3 final. At least there were a decent number of big plays and points tonight.

@jessperate One thing I stand by is avoiding the temptation of looking ~everywhere~ for inspiration early on. Find like 5-10 people whose work is outstanding and try to understand WHY it’s so good so often, instead of just endlessly scrolling inspo sites looking at pretty things.

@johnroescher Lydia had a similar situation last week. Employee was out, had an AI attend the meeting for them to summarize, but didn’t tell anyone. This AI popped up in the meeting and everyone got freaked out and started a new call.

@jstrelioff Definitely the kinda thing that can be useful if you’re ~really~ proficient at it, but if not then it’s probably a waste of time. But you gotta use it to get fast with it, a chicken or the egg situation.
