regarding the whole "digga" drama on twitter: the original account posted the phrase: "ich bin so ein broke ass digga" that phrase itself is very weird and in my 24 years of being a native german speaker with HEAVY use of anglicisms and primarly consuming american media, I have never seen it written or spoken like that I have 100% empathy for the americans that believed that the original post was trying to make a n-word reference because the sentence is clearly structured to resemble "i am such a broke ass n..." HOWEVER, there is a possibility that the original poster intended the tone of "ich bin so ein broke ass.... digga" which would then translate to "i am such a broke ass ... bro" that would be equal to saying "dude i am such a broke ass" so i do think that the original poster was NOT trying to make a racist post, they are just clueless about how those sentences actually sound to real americans it is not a translation problem, it is a cultural/social/grammar problem, germans suck at imitating american slang and they mix german words together with their poor imitation which makes it even harder to understand german speakers will understand (only the chronically online ones) what was meant, but everyone else will probably be confused (including older and more rural german folks) these are just the consequences of wannabe americans in german countries, trying to use american slang , completely butchering it, being unintentionally tone deaf and then having the AUDACITY to call out those very americans that they try to imitate for being supposedly stupid make it make sense tut mir leid, aber die amis haben hier total recht und die sind nicht viel dümmer als irgend ein sebastian in NRW der meinte er müsse aufm heimweg von der bäckerei missverständliches englisch labern weil er ja so cool und hip is lmfao nächstes mal schreib einfach "ich bin so ein armes arschloch digga" und keiner hat ein problem echt peinlich sowas ohne scheiss
