@adaptskill @MGreymatter With respect to MMA fighters, I look more to the sweet science. Older sport, more research, technique focus, and longer careers. You can link the book because I’m more than willing to learn a new technique for coaching.

@_xdaman_ @MGreymatter I would recommend you read a book on any type of modern skill acquisition. None of them recommend breaking down technique into parts. Strickland basically only spars btw and that’s where most MMA gyms are heading too, I can link a podcast too if that’s more your style

@adaptskill @MGreymatter And fighters spar in fight camp but that’s not the bulk of it. Lot of bag work, mitt work, cardio, etc. I’d argue very similar to what you see in most line rooms when it comes to structure. I disagree about half reps though. I think they are good for learning, not rep work.

@adaptskill @MGreymatter You break down stuff in to parts order to fix/perfect things. Have an o lineman do live reps with bad pad height and footwork would be a waist of everyone’s time. I’d get the argument at the professional level but college down, they are still trying to build those skills.

@adaptskill @MGreymatter I mean, sled was for practicing proper pad height, pop, technique, and footwork while not killing each other. Live reps on each other are great but injuries are going to be through the rough. You could try it on a coach but that’s a lot of contact for a non padded person.

@MGreymatter Sled is inanimate, why not just pair up in pods and strike moving humans? WR routes always include a defender(s). LB tracking a back and not pointing where he should go. What makes it hard on game day? Rep that not static on air drill w the illusion of perfection
