@_xdaman_ @MGreymatter Skill is not a sum of parts you take apart and put back together, they need the live reps. Fighters manage to spar for months on end and avoid injury bc you don’t need to do full speed reps for the skill to transfer, it’s actually preferable to slow it down to 60-80% for practice

@adaptskill @MGreymatter I mean, sled was for practicing proper pad height, pop, technique, and footwork while not killing each other. Live reps on each other are great but injuries are going to be through the rough. You could try it on a coach but that’s a lot of contact for a non padded person.

@tezah__ Love this, can you elaborate your thoughts on why intervention requires so much access?

Isn’t there no such thing as no perception? We are constantly perceiving. Therefore there is no such thing as 100% max V, no matter what the intent is. Even sprinting down the track by ourselves in an empty stadium, we are still perceiving small environmental outputs and therefore cannot reach 100%. @CoachRC23 🤓

@RICH_AgilityLab My understanding is it depends on intentions. S&C training session working max V, no perception, bc intention is pure output. Football training session working skills, everything will include perception bc the intention is to make skilled athletes and sport is played w others

is it the role of a coach to “fix” the athletes technique

@RICH_AgilityLab IP advocates for the same exact principles as EcoD fwiw just get there in a different manner. I understand the other perspectives I just don’t find them compelling enough to orient my training in that manner. I obviously don’t have the answers ur looking for brother 🫡

skimmed Schmidt’s Motor Learning & Performance and it’s good. He advocates for a form of representative design, repetition without repetition, and variability within practice design to maximize skill transfer

@adaptskill Just because that is good, and we can rationalise it from via ED, doesn’t mean that something else is bad because you can’t rationalise it via ED Maybe it’s just different for different reasons and the perspective is too narrow? A worthwhile consideration

Sprinting is a great way to get young athletes expressing force. But watch the game, even the reps that look like pure track speed, the athlete is perceiving. Build sprints with perceptual elements (partners at varying angles) and you get representativeness, and transfer

@RICH_AgilityLab I didnt discount any type of training only advocated for more perceptual training but ride that high horse if it makes you feel better

@adaptskill It’s a great drill, it has its place. I use loads of things similar, but I don’t believe it’s the entire puzzle, I don’t discount other types of training, I’m not dogmatic and even though I really like ED, I haven’t lost all sense of critical thinking to realise it’s flaws.

@adaptskill Yes - Bernsteins hammer - the action was never the same, redundancy/ dexterity. That original observation was observed in a v.simple pre-planned repetitions movement. So pre-planned sprinting ofc has huge variability. It doesn’t rationalise anything IMO.

@MGreymatter Sled is inanimate, why not just pair up in pods and strike moving humans? WR routes always include a defender(s). LB tracking a back and not pointing where he should go. What makes it hard on game day? Rep that not static on air drill w the illusion of perfection

@adaptskill These drills seem like good practice for open field pursuit and angles, breaking down and reaccelerating, etc but how would you apply this to other football skills? Do you think sled work is useless? (Again not rhetorical questions fr interested)

@RICH_AgilityLab Variability is the delivery mechanism for adaptation in perceptual systems. Repetition without repetition

@RICH_AgilityLab Yeah I don’t agree with that every decision made on the field has to do with you perceiving another opponent. I only cut bc the environment offered the opportunity to cut (or not). Sport inherently invites the other, so invite opposition into your training as much as possible imo

@adaptskill 100% - but the Q is, does sprinting without the perception limit the transfer of it to when there is perception. What kind of % of potential are we missing?
