You wonder why we are called “a11yphant”? It‘s a combination of the numeronym “a11y”, which is an abbreviation for “accessibility”. And „elephant“, because they are very smart animals 🐘

🐘#a11y Tip Websites exist in various #languages. Setting the "lang" attribute on the <html> element helps users and #AssistiveDevices, as browsers use this information to offer translations and correctly pronounce words when converting text to speech. Example: <html lang="en">

"i see people implement this sort of UI all the time" the developer says, as if commonality of UI patterns indicates the UI patterns are actually "good" and not UX trash fires for people with disabilities. It's actually quite common for UX to be trash. Is trash good?

#a11y: Do not use colour as your only indicator for information! 🚫 This restaurant uses red, green and brown coloured dots to display the dietary info of a meal. There is no chance of telling which dish is vegetarian if you are #ColourBlind. The colours are just too similar.

Today, September 6th is #ColorBlindess Awareness Day! Did you know that 300 million people worldwide live with colour deficiency? That's about 1 in 12 men (8%) and 1 in 200 women (0.5%). The most common type is red-green color blindness, typically inherited.

The first quarterly @a11yphant work weekend in 2023 is done! 🚀 Fueled by a lot of coffee and snacks, we were able to complete a lot of tasks. Still, many are left for this year, but we are motivated. The positive feedback we receive keeps us going 😁
