It's almost time for Global Accessibility Awareness Day and I can finally share my thesis in an accessible format — for everyone to read 🎉 It took a year, but I managed to create a website with an #accessible version of the 160-pages thesis on #overlays: overlays.dnikub.dev

Daniela Kubesch says that even though the web now has more AI-written articles than human ones, they often don't perform as well. Will AI content always come second place? 🤔

You 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬 it's 𝒸𝓊𝓉ℯ to 𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 your tweets and usernames 𝖙𝖍𝖎𝖘 𝖜𝖆𝖞. But have you 𝙡𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙙 to what it 𝘴𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘴 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 with assistive technologies like 𝓥𝓸𝓲𝓬𝓮𝓞𝓿𝓮𝓻?

@alfonso_graz talking about the #HeroTrap when becoming a tech lead and being responsible for a team. “Your first instinct might be to solve every problem yourself. Don't. Your job is to help others grow. Listen – Empathize – Lead – Resolve” #DWX #DWX2025

I'm on my way to #DWX2025, swapping the heat of Barcelona for what appears to be the heat of Mannheim😄 I'm looking forward to the speaker dinner tonight, and to taking to the stage at 16:00 on 2 July! 🎙️ If you see me, please come and say hello and grab your CAAT button! 🐱

I love clients who ensure that their disabled buttons have sufficient colour contrast, while also working to remove the anti-pattern of disabled buttons from their websites altogether ❤️‍🔥

Let devs design and let designers code. It is about not being put into boxes. It is about looking beyond the tellerrand. – Matthias Ott at #BTConf

Matthias Ott talk covered so many interesting options for painting on the web. 🤯 For example, fluid web typography (using clamp()), colour space options (using oklch()) and the power of CSS grid. So inspiring, I want to rewrite my website right now and try them all out.

This slide of Léonie Watson’s talk has to be my favourite of the whole conference already, as it perfectly visualises what I often think in my head in my daily work as an accessibility engineer 😅

I accidentally got a sunburn yesterday, and today it's heavily raining and cold. I'm really unsure what to pack for my trip to #BTConf as the weather forecast for Germany is also a bit unpredictable these days. 😅

I forgot to post this yesterday as I was already too busy reading the book I was gifted with, but feliç diada de Sant Jordi to all those who are celebrating! 🌹📚

Working in #a11y means spending an afternoon writing tickets explaining why a <div> with only an onClick listener is not automatically a button and how wrapping an <a> element without a href attribute in a <form> is not good either. 🤷‍♀️

In terms of #email #accessibility is it still necessary to add role=presentation to every table, tr and td element, as adding it to the table element alone is not enough, especially for #ScreenReaders and old email clients? 🤔

This is definitely an implementation of a search button I've never seen before… I have so many questions, primarily WHY 🥴

“I implemented an image that uses onClick, but now I realise that there needs to be a button cause some users can't access it. It also needs an accessible name. I must change that.” I'm so glad my students are relearning HTML while realising the impact their code can have.

No “year in review” post from me this time, as a broken pipe in my apartment literally lets me slide into the next year 🥴 no need to wish me a „Guten Rutsch“ for NYE (aka. a good slide into the new year), as we do in Austria haha
