I can sketch on paper faster than manipulating a gui, it's more akin to touching grass and feels free and fun.

figma was where the people were at, shad cn and tailwind was the bridge, it's time to move on completely to in app agentic prompt design canvas in production code, in app component library, and everything else is a shader plug in or whatever. there's no need for a design gui at all. the gains from immediate production code is worth the prompt tweak time, and becomes less and less as the system grows.

I like types. Types align with my brain waves; they help me create better code. TS/Rust are my tools of choice. When using agents, though, that doesn’t matter as much. I asked OpenCode to build me a simple CRM recently using Ruby on Rails. It came back INSANELY GOOD. One prompt, 15 minutes, database migrations, form validations, authentication, a nice backend structure - the works! Ruby and Rails have been around forever. That makes a huge difference for agents. The older and more proven the tech, the better the result you get from the agent. That is also why Linux has suddenly become such a joy to use.

I love accelerating Rails development with agents. It's incredible how much progress you can make in such few tokens. rubyonrails.org

and specific RL on component library type... react, react native, swift, appkit ... shit gpui too. you could fly and feel in complete control from a design stand point. could go from napkin sketch to production ui so fast without having a library dependency. pure css and css variables, the real ass deal.

the models are incredibly good at atomizing building up the organisms of reusable systems and using them super efficiently, BUT only if you explicitly direct this and hover over it with skills and mds there’s a real case for RL on a stock front end workbench tool that’s part of the harness.

why is everything so common sense designed in codex? almost hard to believe given the cc abuse.

you’d be getting all your agent traces and a doc based memory layer for free

if web / desktop agent chat output rendering was actually prose mirror under the hood it’d open up a TON of latent possibilities easily can see 1 click turn this response or full turn into a doc inline commenting / prompting on specific sections of agent responses

realized Chat GPT already has 60-70% of a really good markdown editor in the canvas feature which has maybe just been forgotten it’s really good, the line height and everything is honestly way better than the line height in the codex output extremely well designed, but seems like an mvp should just buff this out to render all the markdown blocks and ship it to codex as the text editor

needs to be part of the agent harness app not another app

the ui design tool of the future only needs to be an agentic canvas that - has a pencil tool for component sketches - agent turns sketches into react components - prompts tweak design - components cataloged to ui library - pencil tool sketches screens and agents build out from library codex spark and voice driven

6 months into this and there’s still no ui library workbench that’s part of any of the desktop apps. it’s def not storybook. i imagine the state of front end consolidation is exponentially worse than it was already.
