The 'Buy European’ push could ‘wipe out’ EU deregulation drive, Nordics warn.  Finland, Sweden, the Netherlands, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania said in a joint non-paper that a ‘European preference’ principle, which is strongly backed by France and the European Commission, risks adding “another layer of complex regulation” for EU firms. The paper came just days after EU industry chief Stéphane Séjourné published an op-ed, signed by more than 1,000 EU companies, calling for a “genuine European preference” in the bloc’s “most strategic sectors euractiv.com/news/buy-europ…

Hungarian PM Viktor Orbán: Anyone who thinks that America can be a long-term strategic anchor when thinking about Hungary’s future is mistaken. Not because America is bad — it has many admirable qualities. Not because it is insignificant — there is nothing more significant than America. But because the American political system is such that in four years everything can be turned upside down. And if we align ourselves in one direction, they can easily turn back — while we cannot, because we become trapped.

Neuroscientist study reveals that Gen Z has become the first generation to be less intelligent than its predecessor, the Millennials. For the first time in 100 years, young people are scoring lower than their parents on IQ tests and core skills like memory, reading, and focus. This is happening mainly in the US and Europe. The main cause appears to be excessive screen time and digital device use, particularly in schools and social settings. While some suggest Gen Z is just developing different skills, research shows actual declines in fundamental problem-solving abilities.

@PeterSchiff There is no need for that when you have the Shanghai Gold Exchange being one of the biggest gold spot markets in the world, you trade using rMB and then settle it in gold

Scott Bessent admitted he has heard rumors that China is working on a gold-backed token to be used as an alternative to the U.S. dollar for international payments and reserves. He gave no indication that he believes the rumor is false. If it’s true, he should be very concerned.

The fact that European Parliament votes on major issues continue to align primarily along national lines is a reminder that, contrary to widespread assumptions, a post-American Europe would not necessarily be more united. If anything, the likelier outcome would be a renewed phase of inter-European competition

🇫🇷🇷🇴🇵🇱🇬🇷 The decisive push to freeze ratification came from a cross-party coalition of French, Romanian, Polish and Greek MEPs. 🇮🇹🇩🇪🇪🇸 On the losing side: Italy, Germany and Spain led opposition to the referral — but it wasn’t enough to stop the deal from being sent to the Court.

Trump: "I am derived from Europe, Scotland, and Germany, 100% Scotland, my mother, 100% German, my father. [...] Europe is getting out of the culture it has created over the last 10 years. It's horrible what they're doing to themselves. They're destroying themselves."

Since everyone has become a Gaullist on this platform, here's a pretty relevant quote from the great man himself: "A European national sentiment can only assert itself in the face of the Russians and the Americans" De Gaulle in 1963

"Un sentiment national européen ne pourra s'affirmer que face aux Russes et aux Américains" A lire ces lignes, on se croirait en pleine guerre en Ukraine ou en pleine crise du Groenland, entre Trump et Poutine. Mais c'était de Gaulle cité par Peyrefitte... en 1963.

Trump just went full racist on the world stage. He called Somalis “low IQ,” then said they’re “higher IQ than we thought” because he claims they went to Minnesota and “stole all that money.” This is the President of the United States.

China is delivering 30,000 tons of rice to Cuba, which is facing severe food and fuel shortages due to the U.S. blockade. The delivery is part of a new Chinese emergency aid program, and the first shipment arrived on Monday with the second shipment arriving at the Port of Santiago de Cuba today. More shipments are set to leave from China soon.

JUST IN: @brian_armstrong challenges France central bank governor on Bitcoin at World Economic Forum in Davos 🔥 François Villeroy de Galhau says "I trust more independent central banks with a democratic mandate than private issuers of Bitcoin". Armstrong hits back: "Bitcoin is a decentralized protocol. There's actually no issuer of it. So in the sense that central banks have independence, Bitcoin is even more independent. There's no country or company or individual who controls it in the world."
