Robert, you joined the Conservative Party in 1997 and remained there until January 2026, approximately 29 years. You were a Conservative MP for more than 11½ years and spent nearly five years as a minister, including at the Treasury. During the Conservatives’ 14 years in government, the IFS records 15 new taxes or levies, alongside frozen personal tax thresholds, VAT rising from 17.5% to 20%, corporation tax rising from 19% to 25%, National Insurance increases, a frozen inheritance tax threshold and insurance premium tax more than doubling. The Parliament beginning in 2019 was the biggest tax-raising Parliament in modern British history. There were tax cuts too, and every proposal should be judged on its merits. However, accusing others of “reaching for other people’s money” while presenting yourself as detached from that record requires a remarkable degree of political amnesia.

Andy Burnham has spent 20 years reaching for other people’s money. Reform UK will fight against Labour’s incoming tax assault.

@aa_bcfc @DailyMail Let’s face it. People that advocate for inheritance tax are likely not to receive any, because their parents/dad simply didn’t earn/save enough to pass anything on. Don’t pretend it isn’t this by trying to dress it up in morals. You’re just bitter that you aren’t getting any.

@aa_bcfc @DailyMail It’s a tax on the deceased person who worked hard all their lives to improve their lot, a tax on already taxed income. And is a tiny part of govt revenue. The ones who should be targeted are the Michelle Mones of society.

I must be getting confused in my old age. I would have thought that the son of a stockbroker who went to a posh private school, who hangs out with billionnaires etc was The Establishment!

@SalsburyBilly @SamCoatesSky Based on your replies you are coming across as the reason most people will be voting against reform as demonstrated in recent by elections.

@SamCoatesSky A temporary increase for Labour but that won't last, I would have thought Andy Burnham would have polled temporarily much more than that.😀 REFORM are in the lead 🇬🇧👏 and will win the next General Election. The Greens are ultimately finished but there remaining votes are relevant

@ehannah0 Why would labour want a GE now? They have a massive majority and another 3 years. Reform will carry on sliding in the polls as people recognise the corrupt grifter that Farage is. Labour under the popular Burnham will win the next election in 2029 at a canter.

“The public do not want a general election” Except that’s NOT true. The latest YouGov poll clearly shows the public DO want a general election. We want Labour out. It’s as simple as that.
