If Koby Altman needs to go then like 20 other GMs do too. He's not perfect but he built a team that's averaged 54 wins across the past four years. He's done way more good than bad.

koby needs to go before kenny

"If the Lakers don't get a clear answer from LeBron by July 1st, they may have to renounce his rights. ... I would be stunned if that happened, but there is a little bit more of an urgency." @WindhorstESPN details LeBron's free agency scenarios ✍️

The fact Steve Senior turned down a promotion and role seemingly ABOVE/superior to Pelinka with the Lakers, to stay an assistant GM in Minnesota...is quite telling. YIKES

@lebronto_6side @Klutch_23 thing is he’d have to take the min to go. lakers are saying if that’s what you want, by all means. get 2 million to play with an old ass warriors team where steph and jimmy make 30x more than you do

I’m going to have to disagree, the idea of job and responsibilities of sports journalists is getting real twisted. There is no greater good for this, people don’t need and have to know this before the announcement, so yes I absolutely blame Shams. He sent the tweet for his brand
Royce Young@royceyoung

@BoomtownHoops Don’t blame Shams. Blame whoever told him. Shams did his job.

imagine how much of a steal this would be for any contender. LeBron coming off a healthy offseason, able to fine tune his game properly, able to workout & recover at full capacity, basically guaranteed to come into next season significantly better than he was this year after dealing with knee issues & Sciatica, can pencil him for 23-25 ppg along with his usual playmaking & defensive prowess, efficiency is gonna take a jump across the board most likely… & you’re getting ALL OF THAT for $15M or the Vet Min??? finna be the most coveted Free Agent at 41 years old 🤣
Legion Hoops@LegionHoops

If LeBron James left the Lakers, he "would likely sign at the $15M non-tax midlevel or veterans minimum" with any other team. (via @BobbyMarks42)

Zach Lowe on his most recent podcast shared the “wariness” from potential candidates regarding the assistant GM position for the Lakers due to the question if this a “Dodgers hire or Pelinka hire” and if they will be tied to Rob - or not - moving forward.

@TrevorLane @KamBrothers maybe it’s because they’ve been striking out the last handful of years in the draft. austin was the last good guy they got and he was undrafted. all the good guys they got before they either traded, for ad so worth it, or let walk.

Agreed. I think the idea of the Lakers not building through the draft is one that, on the surface, sounds great and a mantra fans will get behind. However, in a league where, intentionally or not, the draft has become the most powerful of the 3 avenues for roster building (draft/free agency/trades) it’s a more difficult strategy to execute and requires a high degree of success in the two other paths

I get what Rob means here, and he's not "wrong," but it's also, IMO, too narrow a way of framing the Q. Building through (or partially through) the draft isn't purely about finding a superstar. It can also be about building cost-controlled, sustainable depth. AK
CABAAS@cabaasabdi

@KamBrothers Like Robs answer about having that hard foundational guy piece. Good example of a team in what he mentioned about getting top 5 picks for years and still not having that foundational guy to build around is Houston currently.

Lakers insider Dave McMenamin: “Basically from the All-Star game and onward is that LeBron will continue to play NBA basketball but will it be in Los Angeles?… There’s five or six teams you could viably see him going to next year. The Lakers if they are swept here, will have to convince LeBron, I would say on some level, that we have a plan in place here for you to come back and compete for a championship… At this stage of his career that is the number one that has guiding his decisions: being able to compete for a championship.” (via @mcten)

The Lakers are about to pay $150M + to a Austin, and he'll deserve it. But he just got badly outplayed by the Thunder's 15th highest paid player. And that's really what makes the Thunder such a unique challenge for the rest of the league.
