Literal translation: “Even if you drown under the sail of a capsized odi (traditional Maldivian trading boat), don’t get caught / don’t hold on to a blind man.”
 Real meaning: No matter how desperate or life-threatening the situation is, never rely on or put your trust in someone incompetent or unreliable.(the “blind man” here is a metaphor for poor judgment / bad leadership, not a literal attack on disabled people). It’s a classic warning against bad choices in a crisis. For the government to suddenly pretend this is some new “offensive” remark is pure political theatre. They are trying to change the subject from real governance failures to fake outrage over an old idiom. It’s quite ironic how these so-called “nationalistic” and “anti-woke” figures have suddenly started promoting woke narratives about ableism when it suits their political needs. This cheap distraction tactic doesn’t hinder the reality of Muizzu’s sex scandal and the serious questions about the referendum. The people of Maldives deserve honest discussion about leadership, not manufactured controversies designed to deflect attention from the real issues.
