I wrote a vulnerable personal story on Reddit about how I built the Sober app 9 years ago. The post got 224K views and 1876 upvotes in the first 24 hours. People were asking about the app and I got a wave of US/UK/CA downloads and purchases. Then I got greedy - edited the original post with a link to my app. Then moderators nuked the post within hours. The story WAS the marketing. The moment I turned it into an ad, I killed it. People will find the app if the story hits. Lesson learned: Don't edit the golden post.

Went from zero to a deployed quiz landing page for my Sober app in one Claude Code session. 9-question alcohol assessment → email capture with abuse protection → personalized results → App Store CTA. Next.js, Tailwind, Resend for email capture, deployed to Vercel. End to end, including debugging build issues and Vercel deploy.

I have a new respect for anyone doing video. It’s HARD. Between audio issues, schedule conflicts, studio / team / contractor fees, I’ve spent $5000 USD this month and I don’t have a single usable video. Writing content and building free tools is 100x easier.

My app Sober just got its App Store benchmarks: Day 7 retention above the 75th percentile means people aren't just downloading — they're actually using it 🚀 One area to improve: proceeds per paying user ($6.93) sitting between 25th-50th percentile. Retention is strong – now I need to capture more value. Thinking about adjusted pricing 🤔 Building something people stick with > chasing downloads.
