Cognitive Dissonance theory was probably my favorite to learn about. It's so interesting to think about the way we react when the behaviors don't fit the societal, or even our own perceptions and deeper belief in something. #UTcommtheory

@queernamehowiee To add to that, I feel like influencers and public relations play a much bigger part in agenda-setting because of the idea that people are more likely to be influenced to try/buy/hear if someone popular is telling them about it. Surely they can be trusted. #UTcommtheory

Agenda Setting theory is still relevant today. With more media platforms comes more algorithms to gatekeep and more influencers to promote and sell things. I might cultivate the vibes on my personal feed but I still only see what the algorithm wants me to see. #UTcommtheory

@acherry333 I hate that it was originally called BackRub. I also hate that Bing is the default search engine for Windows computers-- I've been using Google for so long that it's like... uncomfortable and feels wrong to use anything else #UTcommtheory

I chose Hulu, a subscription streaming service that I had no idea was a majority-owned subsidiary of Disney. The minor stake is held by Comcast and they aren't making it easy for Disney to buy them out because they want to buy Hulu for themselves. Sneaky. #UTcommtheory

I have a parasocial relationship with the Kardashian family. The devil works hard but Kris Jenner works harder when it comes to marketing and profiting off of her daughters. I've learned so much about them both willingly and unwillingly. #UTcommtheory

@aallanutrocket1 I feel like that's a little extreme, but, I worked at a place that actually paid all expenses for one of the employees to go to rehab-- in California no less. If you want to share you're mimosa with your friends then do it, it could literally be worse #UTcommtheory

If I were to post something as simple as "enjoying this mimosa" my friends will know I am enjoying a mimosa most likely because it was free and I am cheap. whereas coworkers might think I have a drinking problem and suggest firing and/or sending me to AA #utcommtheory

@sethcamiscione Yeah, the internet was already a hellish wasteland but it became ostensibly worse when nobody had anything to do but sit in front of their computers. Anonymity is such a double-edged sword. #UTcommtheory

I think communication technology negatively impacted our experience of COVID because it LITERALLY gave people a screen to hide behind. This came through with furloughs, job loses, and other sensitive information that would be harder to give face to face. #UTcommtheory

The current communication technology negatively impacted the covid-19 experience because it allowed for an overload rife with misinformation and conspiracy theories. It became difficult and overwhelming to discern truth from misleading information. #UTcommtheory

@aallanutrocket1 Just reading that makes me so frustrated for you, there are so many better ways to communicate that he isn't happy with the culture. I can't imagine that his culture is practically perfect either. #UTcommtheory

My husband using aggressive separation. He isnt American. He always puts down American culture & says "You dont understand, that's just the American way & it is crap, back home..." its frustrating, due to being born & raised here. I think I know the "American way" #UTcommtheory

I have two colleagues that engage in a toxic amount of aggressive separation, sabotage specifically. I've seen them plant live store products and accuse another colleague of trying to steal them in order to get them fired. It never works. #UTcommtheory

Integrative facework happens when everyone in the room sips their drink, remains calm, and minds their business when someone is speaking, regardless of how incorrect and ignorant whatever they are saying actually is. #UTcommtheory

@sierrahj8621 I wish that more organizations were willing to have that open dialogue-- don't get me wrong they are open to participation in some aspects but are so closed off in others that it's unfair to the people actually affected by decisions. #UTcommtheory

I best respond to participation in decision-making. I think having an open dialogue will facilitate more perspectives and lead to a better outcome when decision-making. #UTcommtheory

I feel like most of us would respond the best to participation in decision-making because we are vindicated. Involvement works because it gaslights most of us into thinking that anything that we have to say matters. #UTcommtheory

@gachaponzu That has always surprised me about corporate orgs in the East it seems like the focus isn't on making sure employees stick around, but on honoring the company machine itself by running bodies into the ground with an unreasonable amount of work and no complaints. #UTcommtheory

The fashion industry could still use a culture shift in order to be more diverse in their models and sizes, as well as their accessibility for folks with disabilities. Diversity at every level matters, there should be visibility for all bodies. #UTcommtheory
