Hardline Iranian daily Kayhan whose editor is appointed the supreme leader's office claimed that Bahrain belongs to Iran and alleged that its people seek annexation to the country. “First, Bahrain belongs to Iran, and the people of that land consider themselves Iranian. They speak Persian and seek annexation to their original homeland,” the newspaper wrote. Kayhan also said Bahrain’s government had filed a complaint against Iran at the United Nations, accusing Tehran of interference in its internal affairs. “Second, the puppet rulers of Bahrain have placed the soil of this Iranian island at the disposal of the United States and the Zionist regime for a military attack on Iran. Therefore, in addition to being stripped of power, they must also be put on trial and punished,” it added.
The Gulf Cooperation Council: Turning Challenge into Opportunity and Redrafting the Balance In light of the accelerating security challenges facing the GCC states, the role of non-Persian nations within Iran—foremost among them the Ahwazi Arabs—emerges as a decisive strategic factor. This reality warrants careful diplomatic attention from the Gulf Cooperation Council. The Iranian regime, with its expansionist policies, support for armed militias, nuclear program, and missile arsenal, represents a direct threat to global energy security and the stability of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Recent missile and drone attacks on Gulf infrastructure confirm that the threat is no longer hypothetical; it is a reality affecting the economy and national security of every Gulf state. However, the strategic vulnerability of the ruling regime in Iran lies within its own borders. Non-Persian peoples—including Ahwazi Arabs (located in a region containing over 80% of Iran's oil and gas reserves), lurs, Kurds, Balochs, and Turks—make up more than 70% of the population and inhabit geographically and economically sensitive border regions. These groups suffer from systematic marginalization regarding resources, as well as cultural and political rights. This creates deep internal tensions that could hinder the regime's ability to direct its resources toward external threats. Supporting the legitimate demands of non-Persian peoples for rights and fair participation is not "interference"; rather, it is an investment in regional stability that aligns with international law and the right to self-determination. Strategic Gains of Diplomatic Support Strategically, providing diplomatic and humanitarian support—through media, cultural cooperation, and targeted developmental aid—achieves several key objectives: Internal Resource Reallocation: It reduces Iran's ability to export crises via proxies by forcing the regime to reallocate its resources domestically. Energy Security: It protects the flow of energy by strengthening partnerships with the populations living in areas surrounding the Strait of Hormuz. Regional Rebalance:It opens doors for a more balanced and open Iranian system, reducing the risks of nuclear proliferation and hybrid warfare. Conclusion The GCC states, with their economic and diplomatic weight, are capable of leading this path with strategic intelligence that combines firmness with wisdom. Supporting non-Persian peoples is not an emotional choice; it is a long-term security necessity that helps realize Gulf development visions in a safer and more prosperous regional environment.
