The Vance wing is enthusiastic about the preposterous Iran “deal” because it’s terrible for Israel. They don’t even mind that it’s also bad for the U.S.

@blockhead4000 “Beyond trt”. Trt unfortunately is nothing but the normalisation of anabolic use in the vast majority of cases. What would be the % of trt users that actually have gonadal failure?

The reality that young guys need to deal with is that drugs (beyond like TRT) are objectively bad for you, and if you're natural you can either be big (relatively i mean) *or* have abs. Not both. People have no idea what a non-enhanced male body even looks like anymore.

Media consumption genuinely is not that important, people. I promise that you really do not have to define yourself by your media consumption happens.

You can say whatever you want about LLMs and I certainly have my critiques, but I think this is actually the first time since the iPhone where I feel like, “OK, this is something genuinely new and cool and useful.” A lot of you seem really impressed by phone applications that call taxis, or online video stores that mean you don’t have to interact with retail employees, or food delivery applications for stuffing your already-fat faces at home, but I think quite clearly all of that stuff is extremely stupid and unimportant. If you judge the technology industry by the creation of genuinely impressive new stuff, then LLMs are the first important thing in a very long time.

@owenbroadcast Agree the disappearance of genuine, appreciable difference between AI and human visual art is imminent, if not already here. Curious whether you think identifiability of text-based human art will also be lost? In some ways writing has a much higher ceiling of complexity

yes, an AI could make a painting that is exactly like bob ross. no, it’s not the same, because bob ross didn’t paint it. correct. however this was also the defense against “my kid could paint that” accusations against modern art. congratulations. you are modern now. its okay.

the people who thought “defending art” meant throwing away the modern idea that the artist, their story, the story behind the art, and the art’s place in history all matter as much as what the end result looks like are now going to embrace these principles as an anti-AI stance.

@GrayConnolly Gray you are usually v reasonable but this aspect seems like a blind spot. This is the attitude towards Christians and their treatment esp. in West Bank the same. All that mattered here is the optics were so bad it was getting traction in the West so needed to be managed.

Israelis immediately investigated & punished the delinquents esp as Israelis have Christians in the IDF ... meanwhile the very same media trying to stir outrage here were noticeably silent when Christians were being beheaded by 'moderate rebels' Daesh on YouTube

A short while ago, in full coordination with the local community of Debel in southern Lebanon, the damaged statue was replaced by IDF troops. The Northern Command worked to coordinate the replacement of the statue from the moment it received the report of the incident. The IDF expresses deep regret over the incident, and is working to ensure that it does not happen again in the future.

i know a guy whose theory is that the angels were permitted some discretion in how to implement creation - this is why there is such variation: one tree like this, one tree like that: that's the range of their personal take on things while manifesting God's design for "tree".

Seems like a problem with representation in art is that characters can’t just be characters but has to stand as avatars and role models of an entire group of people so that they can’t behave “badly” which is just as limiting and ridiculous as turning them into tropes

Police can’t charge a man who brought a Hamas flag to a Palestine rally in Brisbane because Labor included a loophole in the legislation that allows anybody with a terrorist flag to get off if they say they didn’t know what they were holding 😂 UQ lecturer Kath Gelber comments in the full article: “Whenever a new social problem arises, governments try to introduce new laws and they become too unwieldy. We need to rethink this approach.” Okay Katherine, we can just deport them then. We didn’t have this “social problem” 20 years ago. Islamic terrorism is an imported social problem to Australia because Australia was never built as a country for Islam.

@Mangan150 Transferrin sat is falsely low in inflammation. Soluble transferrin receptor is useful for discriminating between decreased transferrin sats due to illness vs deficiency. Re the papers above - I do wonder whether that relationship is genuinely about iron status or inflammation

Excess body iron, not even what the experts would call "overload", is linked to osteoporosis. For example Ferritin, the iron storage protein, potently inhibits formation of new bone tissue No doctor will ever mention this or test for this. You're on your own

If you were a man who owned so many books you couldn’t read them all in a lifetime and you always drank out of the same mug and wore your clothes until they fell apart or your wife threw them away, what would you want for your 64th birthday? Asking for a dad
