A2: Important to remember that the same opportunity can become available more than once. Initially disappointed that I didn't get APD job in 2017, then 6 months later it opened up again. #jhmchat

A2: But the days in which doing more than 1 thing was frowned upon are thankfully over! We no longer need to apologize for or justify pivots and the cultivation of an array of roles and skills. #jhmchat

A2: Keeping your eyes open for new opportunities and doing frequent introspection to know your own professional passions, goals, and needs is important. Some opportunities will be aligned, some won't. #jhmchat

@buckeye_sanjay And apropos of maintaining a repertoire of skills and niches, finding multiple professional homes (which may or may not overlap) is also key. Mine are med ed, mentorship, coaching, curricular development, educational innovation. #jhmchat

@buckeye_sanjay I had a similar epiphany at SHM in 2006. I had been a hospitalist for 3 months and suddenly found my home. #jhmchat

20 years ago, it was challenging to start a career in HM. No electives, disapproving program directors. Mine actually told me he was worried about my career when I opted out of fellowship. How glad I am to have done that! #jhmchat

Clinical case writing was an important springboard for my early career. Introduced me to scientific writing and the submission-publication process. #jhmchat
