@p2jones It requires some organic synthesis skills, but not too hard if I understand my chemist right. Some companies can do custom synthesis. Or just contact me directly and we can perhaps provide some for a collaboration.

@ABDahlin @ACSNanotation I’ve worked with silanes for a long time but this is the first I’ve heard of silatranes. Very interesting! It seems like synthesizing silatranes would be a hurdle for many people. Any idea how to get around that?

Has anyone else every thought for >5 min about the possibility of starting your own research institution in your garage?

I just submitted a paper that I have worked on for 5 years. The project has been worked on for 10 years by generations of students. The idea itself I have had even longer. I think the feeling I have now is the same as I will have when my kids move away from home one day.
