Hiya Flat residents have been given a MVR5300/month discount for the next 25 months, meaning residents with no outstanding payments will pay not pay rent. Residents will still have to pay MVR1000 maintenance fee. The move comes just days ahead of the upcoming LCE2026 elections and referendum.
Speaking to Adhadhu, HDC sources reveal that some senior management opposed the decision as it would incur a massive loss on the company. However, the last minute approval was given on President Muizzu’s orders, with the decision deemed necessary to win Hulhumale for PNC.
The Hiya Flat rent has also been increased to MVR5300, after having reduced the rent to MVR3984 in Dec 2023. The administration has also forgiven fines incurred by Hiya Flat residents.

There was a time when Hiya community was so aligned that the MDP was not welcomed at all. In fact, the MDP concluded the 2023 election campaign without holding a single campaign event in the Hiya area. Ibu did not visit even once.
When we managed the Hiya community, we were standing firmly against the sitting Gov. We had no money to distribute. No job offer to give. We fought for the right causes and we did so honestly. People stood with us because they believed in the cause. Without Gov power, favors, or resources, we kept majority united and focused on what truly mattered.
Two years into the PNC Gov, all of that unity has been broken. Different actors within the Gov began using jobs, projects, and other incentives to buy loyalty, and the unity among the Hiya community was slowly eaten away like cancer.
Today, despite controlling the entire Gov apparatus, holding supermajority in parliament, and having access to vast money and resources, the PNC has still failed to unite the Hiya people the way we did as a simple NGO, without any Gov backing at all.
That speaks volumes.

@hathareskan YAG was cruel to his political opponents. But despite that and the whole MMPRC corruption, we enjoyed the most economic prosperity in his term. Dollar rate was at an all time low and lot of important projects were undertaken. In short, while politicians suffered, citizens didn't.
