Need folks in charge in public transit who think of it as a key service rather than as a subsidy for the poor (he says, as the streetcar crawls at walking speed a half hour after previous one, at rush hour, despite a supposed 5 min schedule). Travel speed not counting wait: 4mph.

@RM_Transit Why is there no accountability for transportation in Toronto and nothing done to improve it? Everything is siloed and no deputy mayor or committee is responsible.

I increasingly feel trapped because Toronto and Ontario don't appear to care about providing good transit to their people at almost any level. So I'm asking you, what questions do you have about public transit that I could talk about? What are you curious about? I'll write that!

@UPexpress could you please provide some information about whether the service is running? The information is Union is terrible and your website is out of date.

@RM_Transit It’s a societal choice. Surface transit could be a lot faster. I’m not interested in my tax dollars going towards subways so that suburbanites can drive around alone in their SUVs a little faster.

The Finch LRT will force Toronto to reckon with two things: street based transit will *almost* never compete with cars (especially in the burbs) and that people really care about speed. My new piece in the Toronto Star highlights that and makes the case for subways and railways.

@typesfast Agree. But not a fair test - europeans don’t have as much practice at setting ambient temperature (which develops ones judgment)

Fahrenheit is objectively better than Celsius. This can be easily demonstrated by taking a group of people mixed between Americans and Europeans and asking them to estimate the ambient temperate. Fahrenheit users are always more accurate in this exercise. Try it!

Just got home from Montreal. Walked all around downtown, and, you know what? Didn’t see encampments in every park and square. Didn’t see garbage overflowing from every can. Didn’t see empty storefronts at the base of every condo building. Toronto, we need to clean out city hall.

@BradMBradford It’s funny how right-wingers have so little self awareness that they use “common sense” for their opinion or call anything they don’t like “a waste of money”. What about all the money we waste on roads and cars? You’re completely silent on that, aren’t you.

I wonder if Mayor Chow regrets spending so much political capital on this nonsense? What a waste of time and money. Another useless distraction from fixing the real issues that seem to elude the mayor’s attention. x.com/rpoconnor/stat…

Renaming Dundas subway station to TMU will cost the Toronto public $400,000 in new transit maps alone - yet the new station signs still read "Dundas", presumably because "TMU" is geographically meaningless to most transit users. Great job, City Council!

A lot of Americans have no idea what's going on up in Canada, but a few months ago, the Supreme Court ruled that a huge swath of Vancouver's suburbs actually belongs to an indian tribe. These Aboriginal Land Claims are now going to explode across the country. The whole thing is quickly becoming a massive grift. For example, another indian tribe has a lawsuit going on where they claim title over literally half of the entire province of New Brunswick. Canada is allowing itself to be broken apart via legal and administrative implosion.

@SarahFischer__ Sure, but every government in Canada has been “investing” for years. The Harper government, the Ford government, the Smith government, they are all “investing”. Poilievre or any future conservative government would be no different.

As a former banker and self proclaimed economic expert, Carney sure is getting the basics wrong. When the government spends, it’s still spending even if he calls it “investing.” Saying the two are different means he either doesn’t know what he’s talking about, or worse, he’s trying to trick Canadians.
