Brace for Impact! 😣😣😣 Tomatoes 🍅 Prices are about to go up! Between the month of May and June, the prices of tomatoes 🍅 are going to shoot up due to seasonal production challenges! Even though farmers are still producing, the main challenge here is the intense heat during this period and it affects tomato performance. Tomato plants react quickly to extreme temperatures, which equals reduced yield, then increase in prices. A 50kg basket of tomatoes now sells for about ₦20,000, a sharp increase from the ₦7,000 to ₦10,000 range recorded earlier in the year. The price of a crate has risen to between ₦10,000 and ₦15,000, compared to ₦5,000 to ₦6,500 previously. Don't panic, it's a seasonal challenge and it will pass, the increase in price is projected to not be more than 3 months. If you can buy your tomatoes now - do so, so you can continue to have enough stew in your pot!
