@Hajjyass70 In the 2024 elections, the 697,076 votes pulled by the NDC in Ashanti region was only 18,424 short of the votes it had in the Upper East, Upper West, and North East regions combined.

@Hajjyass70 Ashanti region is key to the electoral fortunes of the NDC. Notwithstanding that the NDC pulls less than 30% of the votes in the region, its value is usually higher than the votes the party receives in the Upper East and Upper West regions combined.

Question to the gods! It’s only God that knows what the NDC exactly wants from the Ashanti region because it really doesn’t make sense.

I once saw a documentary in which a man did the exact thing with his wife. Turned out he was creating a paper trail in the event of a divorce. Every email sent was a piece of evidence to be presented in court.

@barkervogues As the defense you are entitled to use every legitimate means to defend your client but to say that the FBI pursued him because of US$50k is laughable. The FBI will never waste resources pursuing such an amount

Let’s Talk Abu Trica. 1. Abu Trica was set up by an FBI informant who approached him saying that he was expecting some 50,000 dollars. And that Abu Trica should help find a bank account for them to transfer the money into. 2. His share would be 13,000 dollars if he found an account. 3. Abu Trica went around asking different people because he thought he was making 13,000 dollars. 4. Someone gave him an account which he gave to the FBI undercover agents. 5. And he was paid 13,000 dollars. 6. This is the entire evidence the FBI provided. When Abu was arrested, the FBI came to him to give them the name of the person whose account it was. 7. Abu didn’t. Before the matter went to court, they had EOCO Issue a press statement claiming that Abu had scammed people of 8 million dollars. 8. There is no 8 million usd anywhere. We are here because of 13,000 dollars. 9. Now Abu was charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud. 10. We presented the magistrate with 80 pages of legal argument, tracing the history of the Extradition Treaty, showing that the offence of conspiracy is not an extraditable offence. 11. Now, the matter is under appeal, so I won’t say more than that. Except that in my whole life I have never met a judge so eager to extradite a person before. Complete refusal to follow due process. Her mind was made up, from day 1. 12. The truth is Out of 200 requests Ghanaian has received, all 200 have been extradited by our courts. 200-0 oo. 13. If our Courts are willing to follow the law, not be afraid of America; Abu’s case will be 200-1. Shalom

@fanti_boy What do you want EOCO to do? The transaction was approved by Parliament. You can talk about ethical issues but legally, there seems to be nothing wrong with it. Some of you have to be very measured in the way you are putting unnecessary pressure on the government.

@AMNaporow152 We can argue about the need to discontinue selling recruitment forms by state agencies but it’s disingenuous to say that because we had 5k slots, the no. of applicants should have been capped. Even in the private sector, an advertised vacancy can attract more than 20k applicants.

@CallmeAlfredo The idea of buying from small scale miners at a premium to ward off smuggling is not an ideal long term strategy. Measures should be put in place to reduce smuggling in that segment of the market. However, it is disingenuous to simply say Small-Scale Mining = Galamsey.

Government recognizes that doré (raw) gold is not sold at full world market prices. So under the new policy to accelerate reserve accumulation, it’s proposing to purchase a portion of raw gold from large-scale mines at a discount. Brilliant! The discount will take care of refining, transportation and other fees. But in the same policy document, it also proposes potential premiums to purchase raw gold from artisanal and small-scale miners, the very sector where some operators are polluting water bodies and degrading forest reserves. The same sector that doesn’t contribute its fair share of fiscal revenues. Basically, raw gold from known sources bought at a discount. Raw gold from unknown sources potentially bought at a premium. We have passed a law making the state the sole purchaser of small-scale gold. We have also criminalized gold smuggling and hoarding. By continuing to rely on price incentives, are we implicitly admitting a failure to enforce the laws we enacted? In summary, #StopGalamseyNow remains a dream. We are going to mop up as much gold as possible from the small-scale sector. We may even be willing to pay a premium, including to those polluting the environment, because we cannot yet differentiate among responsible v irresponsible miners. Don’t be deceived by the term “licensed miners”. But it’s all good because it will help us build reserves quickly to 15 months of imports by 2028. Brilliant!

@obiMpenaAustine @KwameBerry_ @_edemkojo Reuters reported in Jun 2024 that 350k tonnes was rolled over from the 2023/24 crop year. I believe part of it was delivered in 2024/25 and the remaining probably in 2025/26. It would be helpful if COCOBOD provided a detailed breakdown of the situation.

So @_edemkojo if COCOBOD says the current tonnes of Cocoa not purchased is around 80,000, does that mean we have to pay a difference of $2500 per tonne? That’s $200m

@obiMpenaAustine @KwameBerry_ @_edemkojo I should emphasize that I didn’t factor in the stock that was rolled over from the 2024/2025 crop year since the exact volume and price is not precisely known. In event those stocks were sold way below $5,080, then the windfall to COCOBOD will be quite lower than the projected.

@obiMpenaAustine @KwameBerry_ @_edemkojo 530k tonnes have been sold as of Feb 2026 at $7,200/tonne. The price differential between the selling price and what went to farmers would be ~ $1.12b (530000*(7200-5080)). The $216m deficit from the 80k tonnes unsold stock should be financed from the windfall.

@obiMpenaAustine @KwameBerry_ @_edemkojo Another option would be to look for traders who might be bullish about the future price and offer the unsold stock at $4800-5,000/tonne. It might entice them and reduce the losses on COCOBOD side.
