You got to wonder —- did the authors of “Tehran” hire really good consultants? Or did they just get lucky?

@lufthansa It's a middle of a crisis, and Lufthansa cannot be bothered. Offices closed. Chats that are overrun by people. This is really sad.

@lufthansa your online services are unfortunately very lacking. Your chat, which is supposed to help me, has kicked me out twice in the last hour. You say it's humans. I am not so sure.

@lufthansa This unfortunately reflect poorly on @lufthansa. I am just trying to change a flight your AI chose to put me on instead of the flight that got cancelled. But there are better options. If only I could talk to you...

@lufthansa I did -- no help. A human would be nice who would listen to my question and help find a solution.

Just by the by: I spoke to several people in #Gaza today. When people heard the new re: Iran, hoarding started, assuming that Israel would close the borders through which aid gets into the strip. Seems like this is precisely what happened.

I think I have counted eight rounds of siren alarms in #Amman today. I saw one missile (I think) knocked off course in the sky. I heard multiple booms likely caused by Jordanian air defense. I am going to bed soon, not necessarily expecting a quiet night.

And by the way, what happens in Iran doesn't stay in Iran. Iraq could easily become unstable in the wake of what happens next. Which nobody can want. This is just to say: Here's hoping for the best -- while not taking it for granted in any way.

If you look at scenarios for the near future, a popular revolution is just one. Others include a break-up into fiefdoms of warlords connected to the regime. Or a lesser version of the current regime. Or civil war.

I would love for Iranians to be free. Finally. I really hope they can achieve it. Having said that, I'd be lying if I didn't add that it is not a given, even with Khamenei's likely death. Freedom-loving Iranians may be who we support. But they're not the only force in Iran.

Decapitating a regime and regime change are two different things. One is fairly easy (if u r the US), the other incredibly difficult (in case, e.g., of Iran).

Standing on a rooftop in #Amman, hearing booms in the distance, likely Iranian missiles being intercepted

Statement from Oscar-winning director Hamdan Ballal: This afternoon, nearly a year after we won the Oscar, the same settler who attacked me shortly after I returned from Los Angeles--Shem Tov Lusky--again led an attack against my home and my family. Four of my family members are currently arrested and one is in the hospital. I invite all journalists and diplomats to come visit me and my family this Tuesday, February 17, to hear about how the situation has gotten worse in the year since we won the Oscar, as it has across the West Bank. Email me to coordinate your visit: hamdanalhrane90@gmail.com Two weeks ago we managed to get a decision from the Israeli court that the area around my home is closed to non-residents, but the settlers break that order and still come with their flocks almost every day. We call the police, they do nothing. The army comes, they do nothing. Today, Shem Tov Lusky--the settler who attacked me in my home shortly after I won the Oscar last year--came with his flock to my home. My brother called the police to report the incursion. The army came first and immediately raided our house, attacking everyone inside. Then they arrested two of my brothers, a nephew, and cousin. Another brother was badly injured and is now in the hospital. The Israeli court decision was supposed to make things a bit quieter for us. But the opposite has been true. The settlers have ramped up their harassment and the Israeli authorities have done nothing to enforce the decision, and today they joined the settlers in the attack.

Bis jetzt finde ich als Reaktion nicht einmal die üblichen blassen Worte des Auswärtigen Amtes. (Zur Erinnerung: Die Besetzung des Westjordanlandes ist nach internationalem Recht illegal.)
