The govt has done away with the requirement of clinical investigation for new drugs having significant therapeutic advance over the current standard care and have already got the regulatory approval in the US, UK, Japan, Australia, Canada or the European Union. @CDSCO_INDIA_INF

Soaring temp in many parts of India are fuelling demand for medications that manage chronic conditions-medications for high blood pressure (antihypertensives), cholesterol (lipid-lowering drugs), and blood clotting (platelet aggregation inhibitors). m.economictimes.com/industry/healt…

@thakurfdn 13/n So, the million-dollar question is why is the Govt. still flogging the DPCO as the primary tool to fix prices, instead of trying to fix the cartelization issue through better enforcement? And that, my friends is how influence manifests. Its not all obvious sometimes.

Longish 🧵👇 The Govt. (@nppa_india) recently announced the creation of a committee to relook the issue of drug pricing in the country. As usual the focus is going to be the Drug Price Control Order (DPCO) which is notified under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955: 1/n

❤️ Lovely piece of work for Starbucks India, by the agency Edelman India. Starbucks has used the same theme earlier too, particularly in an ad for Starbucks UK, late-2019/early-2020, made by the creative agency Iris (see next tweet). 1/7

Brilliant episode. It covers risks, trade-offs, data, digital, India's biotech future, cancer & NCDs. Listen to understand the tough odds of discovery & research, shareholder expectations and the deadlines of looming generic competition.

“99% of the things we do in research don’t work. Actually, it’s even worse… it’s one out of a thousand. You have to have a really strong comfort with failure. We fail a lot. That failure can’t dissuade you from trying again.” That’s a CEO who did $50 billion in sales last yr.

Professional update: After nearly two years at @livemint, which I left last month, I have now joined @Reuters and am based out of Bengaluru. In my new role, I would be covering US health and pharmaceutical companies.
