@FatEmperor Correction: U2 have not released a new album. That’s coming later in the year. The EP they have released is not about encouraging open borders . But hey, let’s slag off Bono and U2 and we’ll look good to our fellow enlightened keyboard companions.🙄

American Obituary speaks to the shocking event the world witnessed in Minneapolis, Minnesota on January 7th, 2026 where Renée Nicole Macklin Good, a peaceful protestor, was shot and killed at almost point-blank range by ICE, an arm of her own government. This unarmed mother of three was then described as a “domestic terrorist” by an administration who will not withdraw the description even though they know it’s not true or mount a proper enquiry into what happened for the sake of everyone involved. The Tears Of Things borrows its title from a book by Franciscan friar Richard Rohr, which examines, through the writings of the Jewish prophets, how one can live compassionately in a time of violence and despair. The song imagines a conversation between Michelangelo’s David and his creator… where the young man with the sling and five smooth stones refuses the idea that he has to become Goliath to defeat him... he’s also revealed as having heart shaped pupils half a millennia before the heart shaped emoji, which puzzles visitors at the Galleria dell’Accademia in Florence, Italy, to this day. The point of fairy tales like Hansel and gretel and red riding hood is to make children aware (through a physically safe container) that their are predators out there that need to be seen, avoided, and defeated. This reduces naivety, which especially for Europeans is a natural trait (and a good one as it’s associated with awe and wonder). More importantly, it builds courage and the heroic impulse - the most necessary trait a child can learn to build their character and aid them in making the world a better place. Helicopter parenting and the nanny state is a ploy by the predators of life
old toons@oldtoons_

Children deserve to experience fear, disgust, and discomfort in safe scenarios where they can process those sensations. Media for children used to be scary and that's important.

If you grew up as a Catholic in the north as I did in the 1980s, the RUC was not a heroic force. Every single experience I had with them was absolutely dreadful - marked simply by the fact that I was Catholic.

U2 isn't a "vital political voice", they are poxy cowards who have said nothing about the genocide in Gaza. Performative "resistance" nonsense, when millions marched against bloodthirsty Israeli ethnic cleansing. Boycott their music, spare us all their hypocrisy
