They Will Kill You is John Wick by way of Kill Bill with Zazie Beetz at the center and a cult in place of the High Table. The fight sequences are brutally slick, the soundtrack rips, and the violence goes hard. Didn’t fully land for me it’s very much style over substance but if you want to watch Beetz tear through a building full of cultists, this delivers. #sxsw #theywillkillyou #sxsw2026

Forbidden Fruits is Mean Girls by way of the Sanderson Sisters and The Craft. Witches have never been hotter. Pure chaos, sisterhood, murder, and some gnarly kills. New favorite Samara Weaving film alert! Over Your Dead Body from Jorma Taccone had me laughing, cringing, and absolutely hooked. She matches Jason Segel every step of the way and shows her comedic range is next level. What starts as a marital meltdown explodes into 1h45 of pure chaos. Leviticus is It Follows on steroids. A ferocious queer coming-of-age horror where conversion therapy manifests as a demon that becomes the person you desire most. It’s vicious, beautiful, and features one of the scariest jump scares of the year. A horror film, a love story, and a coming-of-age gut punch all at once. Absolutely rocked me. Damian McCarthy has done it again. Somehow each film gets scarier and the jump scares hit harder than ever. Adam Scott delivers an incredible performance in a role unlike anything he’s done before and his presence makes this one of McCarthy’s funniest films yet. There be witches here, and she’s dragging you straight to hell. One of my favorite Neon horror films in quite some time. #hokum #neon @neonrated @hokum

Power Ballad is my favorite film of South by Southwest so far! Nick Jonas and Paul Rudd are absolutely phenomenal in this heartfelt story about dreams, family, and the desire to leave a mark on the world, especially for the people we love most. Upon second viewing of Undertone, I can confidently say it’s the scariest film of the last decade. An auditory descent straight into hell. Seeing it in a theater where the sound surrounds you and drags you deeper into the film is an experience I truly never want to have again. Ian Tuason proves himself an incredible director with a massive future ahead. I swear I left the theater feeling cursed, and those final 30 minutes hit harder than anything I’ve seen in years. #undertone @a24

SXSW Day 1 ended with my favorite film of the fest so far: Kill Me. Peter Warren’s debut is a wildly unique take on depression and our inner demons—balancing dark humor, a murder mystery, and a love story. Charlie Day and Alison Williams are fantastic together.
