Poverty is expensive in a way that people don’t understand. If you can’t afford a dentist you have long term teeth damage. Not affording healthy food means poor health. Not affording ‘good schools’ means missed opportunities. It is a compounding cycle.

I hate poverty and all its manifestations.

The plot for ‘BIG LITTLE TRUTHS,’ the sequel to ‘BIG LITTLE LIES,’ has been revealed: “The last time we saw the women of Big Little Lies—Madeline, Celeste, Jane, Renata, and Bonnie—their children were five years old. If someone wasn’t invited to a child’s birthday party, feelings were hurt. But ten years have passed, and the kids are now in high school, with all of the drama that accompanies teendom (goodbye playdates, hello drugs, sex, and alcohol). Now, after the principal of the high school receives a severed human finger in the mail, the parents are in an uproar. But Madeline, Celeste, Jane, Renata, and Bonnie have other things to worry about. Celeste’s mother-in-law, Mary Louise, is behaving oddly—is it old-age forgetfulness and forthrightness, or something more sinister? Madeline is facing perhaps the biggest challenge of her life, Jane is at a dangerous fork in her marriage, Bonnie has realized there’s only so much solace in yoga. And Renata? Renata is living her best life—revenge is sweet. When a strange man begins lurking around the school asking supposedly innocent questions, this tightly connected group of women must finally face the full repercussions of the big little truths they have and haven’t shared with their kids. Because the stakes are now much higher than not being invited to an ice-skating show—and the ice has never been thinner for any of them.” A third season of the series is also in the works.

And language/wording can reduce stigma and sure it can be helpful, but this is so entry level and so far removed from what it’s actually like working with perpetrators and victims every day. The thick of it IRL (their stories, nuance, layers) is not just language

When I work w/ women who have been convicted of IPV-related matters or a dual charge, their interventions are completely different than men due to their unique barriers, experiences & inherent power men have over them. Despite your sweeping assertions, I’m not disagreeing w/ you!
A@dollyhartz

Oh my god. Abuse is using one’s power to exploit & control another. The correct term is “reactive” or “resistive violence”. Stop using the word “abuse” to describe things that aren’t abuse. Ya’ll want Gabby Petito to be held accountable for hitting Brian Laundrie too? Ridiculous

you actually cannot discuss taylor and dakotas relationship without accounting for his addiction, her bpd/bipolar, BOTH of their abuse in past relationships, how slomw even became a thing, her parents and mormon culture. like… YAH. it’s a lot

she clearly has some untreated things going on and substance use issues. If you’re against her seeking intensive supports, medication adjustments, parental training, you’re actually not helping the way you’re claiming to

Reactive abuse exists—nowhere did I mention mutual abuse. Dakota has been abusive and both are in the cycle of violence. That does not mean absolving Taylor of accountability, especially in front of her child. IPV is a profoundly COMPLEX issue which is the point I’m making
A@dollyhartz

If you work with abuse victims then you should know that mutual abuse doesn’t exist. This is why our DV services are going downhill, no education on DV dynamics whatsoever. Dakota IS the abuser and always has been.
