Causal law exists. Karma is real. Mind shapes matter which shapes mind in an endless loop. Both the worst and best fate that can befall you has already happened an inconceivable number of times. So do not seek suffering but also do not fear it. Just don’t seek or fear anything.

Simple logical critique: The universe is not wholly subject to the will of its creator anymore than a child is wholly subject to its parents. Both child and parent arise in a matrix of interdependent causes. Neither have self-existence, just like god and the universe.

Guard your mind. Cultivate wisdom and compassion, like a well-tended garden. This is the teaching of the Buddhas.

Western meditators really need to hear this 🙏 Jhana without prajna is not liberatory. This is why it is important to practice meditation with a sangha or at least a deep connection with the Buddha’s actual words and ideas. “Just do 1000 hrs jhana, bro” is not the right approach.

This is saṃsāra's structural genius, the maze & the self (or The Experiencer) are co-arising, There is no outside. That's what makes it a perfect trap. The only logical solution is a meta cognitive one i.e. to step outside the system & recognize its unsolvable nature.

According to the Sangata Mahayana Sutra, there are young sentient beings and old sentient beings, and also all sentient beings will understand arising and cessation. This should mean that all the obscurations that arise on the face of the alaya consciousness will be removed and that some obscurations last longer than others, thus, some experiences of sentient beings last longer than others.

The idea is you shed your lower self and merge with a greater self. The Buddha didn’t frame it this way. Awakening was about letting go of craving + clinging— that’s it.

@makapatag @Substantial6187 You’re right— the Buddha spent a lot of time debating the “ego death” people of his time (i.e. hardcore ascetics/mystics who used extreme practices to induce unity states). Awakening is not rly something dying, but more realizing there was never anything born in the first place.

actually buddhism doesn't advocate for ego death really. ego and non-ego is another needless dualism,,, to cling to either ego and non-ego is still clinging..... there is Awakening, which is the Road

Still, the realm of sentient beings would neither increase nor decrease. The world realms of the buddhas of the ten directions are also such as this: each buddha expounds the Dharma teaching of transformation, each crossing over innumerable sentient beings to enter Nirvāṇa, like the sand grains of the Ganges River, and yet the realm of sentient beings neither increases nor decreases. Why? A fixed appearance of sentient beings cannot be grasped, and for this reason, the realm of sentient beings neither increases nor decreases.” Śāriputra again spoke to Mañjuśrī saying, “If the realm of sentient beings neither increases nor decreases, then why does a bodhisattva, for sentient beings, seek Anuttarā Samyaksaṃbodhi and always expound the Dharma?” Mañjuśrī said, “If sentient beings are each empty of characteristics, then there is also no bodhisattva seeking Anuttarā Samyaksaṃbodhi, and likewise no sentient beings to whom he expounds the Dharma. I say that amongst all dharmas, there is not even a single dharma which may be grasped.” At that time, the Buddha said to Mañjuśrī, “If there are no sentient beings, then why do you speak of sentient beings, and even of a realm of sentient beings?” Mañjuśrī said, “The appearance of the realm of sentient beings is like the realm of buddhas.” He was again asked, “Does the realm of sentient beings have a limit?” He replied saying, “The limit of the realm of sentient beings is like the limit of the realm of buddhas.” The Buddha again asked, “Does the limit of the realm of sentient beings exist in any place?” He replied, saying, “The limit of the realm of sentient beings is inconceivable.” He was again asked, “Do you abide in the appearance of the realm of sentient beings?” He replied saying, “Sentient beings do not abide, so it is similar to the abiding of empty space.”" Arya Mahā-prajñā-pāramitā Mañjuśrī-parivarta Nama Mahayana Sūtra Translated from Taishō Tripiṭaka volume 8, number 232

He critiqued ascetics who would starve and hurt themselves in pursuit of awakening, saying it does not produce the correct result, noting his own experiences.

@5Androgenic Buddha achieved enlightenment by removing himself from the environment. Christ achieved liberation by remaining in that environment and transforming his relationship to it. He taught others that this harder path was possible. Christ Mogged.

Buddha’s own cousin tried to kill him, but he didn’t consider anyone his enemy except for his own untamed, unguarded, and undisciplined mind. That’s pretty punk rock tbh
