It was an absolutely gorgeous day to check out the cherry blossoms in DC! The festival should continue on for the next few days, before the next rainstorm arrives by mid-week. 🌸

Out and about today in VA/NC to see what this storm system is made of. Instability looks to increase over the next few hours, which could help ignite this line as it moves into Piedmont

An outbreak of severe thunderstorms is expected tomorrow across the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast. This has high end potential for both tornadoes and damaging winds for an area that hasn't seen it in a while. Storm chase mode will be activated!

Keeping a rather close eye on Monday across the Mid-Atlantic for severe weather potential. The kinematics appear to be rather bonkers, with instability seemingly being the potential limiting factor. Looking more and more like a typical "Low CAPE, High Shear" setup here.

@BradyBGWX Can confirm. Been snowing all day in northern VA although it’s not sticking much due to the sun angle and temps right around freezing

Definitely feels like some over-performance is occurring in DC metro right now. Overrunning precip into cold air mass well timed can often allow some fun to occur. Not done yet either as some may not switch to FRZ rain until overnight. In which we’ll see how much we actually dry up a little(as what’s trying to be modeled in short term. Decent moisture tap from Pacific at hand

@AwxNov Those NW flow snows can be sneaky there. Had a few while living there as well that would quickly coat the ground esp if you could get a little band to not move much for an hour or so

NW flow snow continues the models did not pick this up at all lol (T-1 at the moment here in Blacksburg) I've only lived here for a couple months but I could see this coming from a mile away

Driving conditions around IAD are sub-optimal right now. Would recommend staying off the roads until tomorrow #VAwx

This is quite the radar for North Carolina tonight. Temps mostly in the teens with wind gusts 30+mph and snow falling. Blizzard conditions likely occurring here and will continue for a few more hours as our coastal storm departs. Historic storm here.

This trend on the GFS (and other guidance) for this weekend is quite something. This has high end (and potential blizzard) potential for many along the eastern seaboard should it materialize.

@wx_virginia Writing was always on the wall when the pattern became more amped (compare euro from 60 hours ago to now) and the high pressure isn’t building in but rather leaving. Seems like every time that happens, VA has mixing issues

A mid-atlantic “snowstorm” has ended up becoming an upstate New York snowstorm 🤣

@nova_snow_lover I feel pretty confident DCA will see 5+, and probably 6-12" by IAD. The thump on the front end with those cold temps (sub 20 deg) will be quite something. BUT, a changeover is almost all but guaranteed at this point, so this won't be at historical levels of snowfall there

DC 1-3 inches and then a changeover to ice and rain sounds like something that would happen after such a promising look

A nearly 30 degree temperature gradient tonight between Palm Coast/Jax and the Space Coast. Onshore winds are saving us from another cold (for FL standards) evening.
