Today, we're unveiling the all-new acquired.fm. It's been 8 months in the works, hand-crafted to represent what Acquired has become today. Enjoy :)

The physics of F1 are counterintuitive and awesome. Here's why the cars evolved to look the way they do today.

I feel bad for @AcquiredFM because they don’t get to listen to Acquired while running the way I get to. Thank you for what you do!

Lego is an interesting company. It initially started as a product for kids. But they almost went bankrupt in the early 2000s when kids switched to video games. Then they switched to selling toys to adults. Big technical sets that are $200–$850. They marketed it legos as a creative hobby. Saved their business. Now a big portion of their revenue is adults.

I hadn’t thought about the Pepsi Challenge for decades. Hearing it on the @AcquiredFM Coca-Cola episode, my son asked if we could do it, so we stopped at the supermarket. Kids preferred Pepsi, & adults preferred Coke (but there was spirited debate about serving temperature).

And as a fun aside, observers over the years have pointed out that as an advertisement is wizzing by at 200mph... it doesn't really matter if it has the actual words or not!

It was technically compliant. Hilariously, Ferrari claimed it was part of the livery of the car and not an advertisement. 🙃 But of course, critics rightly claimed that it was still a subliminal ad. By 2010, the FIA officially banned all subliminal advertising for tobacco.

One wild thing we didn't have time for on the episode is how teams (briefly) got around the EU tobacco advertising ban. In 2005, Marlboro bet that their logo was iconic enough that they could turn it into a barcode and STILL get recognition enough to be an effective ad.
