Worrying news about the ongoing @IMOHQ talks about the future of shipping emissions, and the possibilities to mobilise climate finance. We need an ambitious agreement, and it should include a levy! theguardian.com/environment/20…

More than 3 billion people are vulnerable to #climatechange & more in the future will be exposed to the consequences of climate change. Reducing vulnerability to climate change is therefore indispensable for climate justice & just transitions. ➡️ bit.ly/WGIIRept

As 2024 comes to a close, 10 new cities and districts representing 15 million people have formally endorsed a Fossil Fuel Treaty 🔥 Cities are on the front lines of the climate emergency—and they're also climate leaders, steering environmental action around the world. This surge of support is a great way to end 2024 and a promising sign for a Fossil Fuel Treaty in 2025. Has your city endorsed the proposal for a Fossil Fuel Treaty? If not, go to 🔗 fossilfueltreaty.org/cities to call on your local leaders to join the movement 🌏

These are the leaders on the frontlines of the climate crisis, the delegation from Pacific Island Nations at The Hague. We’ve taken the world’s biggest problem to the world’s highest court, but our work is just beginning. #ClimateJusticeAtTheICJ #ClimateICJ

The 45 to 50% emissions reduction target announced last week by the federal government today represents @NZAB_Canada minimum ambition for 2035. It’s hard to see this as anything less than a dangerous compromise that validates the status quo. cbc.ca/news/science/e…

The devastating floods in Nyanza, Nairobi, and Western Kenya show exactly why the Loss and Damage Fund cannot become another slow, bureaucratic mechanism. With thousands displaced and critical infrastructure destroyed, these floods are affecting communities still recovering from Kenya's worst flooding in 30 years this past May. As the Fund's Board meets in Manila, the newly appointed Executive Director must ensure rapid response to disasters, not the typical pace of development finance. We expect concrete plans for swift deployment, especially to countries like Kenya that face escalating climate impacts despite minimal emissions contributions. Developed nations and capable developing countries must step up—your enhanced contributions are urgently needed. These aren't "natural" disasters—they're the front lines of climate change, demanding immediate financial support that matches the intensity and frequency of these crises. Photo: @KenyaRedCross
