No spoilers, but this is the cleverest football advert I've ever seen.

Gave my parents the talk about how one day a robot may call them on the phone using my voice, answering their questions in real time, explaining with desperation that it's stuck on a highway near Des Moines & it lost its wallet & needs them to wire $850 to the following address

If anyone's heading to Glastonbury and looking for a treat, I'll be performing this year! I'm playing guitar for the inimitable Georgie Eliza at the Croissant Neuf Bandstand, Wed 14:00 / Sat 12:30. Maybe see you there! 🎸

And so you get this vision of a super-intelligent agent which is nonetheless also a blind optimisation machine, and would single-mindedly pursue goals with as much ingenuity as we can imagine for the argument at hand - mixing up its levels of emergence. 5/n

2 bits per basepair and assuming a 10 second swallow ... a Blue Whale has a data transfer rate of ~100 Terabits / second?

@mikeduncan I'd love to hear the "crossover content" of you applying your Theory of Revolution (as described in Revolution's appendices) to the Roman Republic's fall. Perhaps something for if you ever feel nostalgic for HoR and Revolutions in the future?

@andrestaltz Android: long press on the home screen to add a widget. Choose "settings" and then "settings shortcut", and select "notifications log". This is the only way to get to it (to my knowledge), but it's the Android OS feature that does exactly this.

I wish I could turn off ALL notifications but still be able to open a "Notifications" app and see them all. No such thing exists, unfortunately, so I'll just miss a bunch of updates 🤷‍♂️

Too often I pick up my phone with a specific task in mind (set an alarm, send an email, etc), and the various notifications end up distracting me from the task I was meant to do. Mobile OSs could be different, letting you choose what to do *before* displaying notifications.

@lindsaykwardell @adamnfish My personal parcel strategy has been “deal with it” or “use Parcel 1 instead”. I don’t want to flame the parcel folks on twitter but I’d probably recommend vite or esbuild or something until things become more stable.

Accidentally read "The Name of the Wind" and "The Wise Man's Fear" before checking that the third book in the trilogy exists

@OliverJAsh I think it would be hard for React to embrace purity while it's written in a language that can't express (e.g Purescript) or enforce (e.g. Elm) purity constraints?

@OliverJAsh Ports let you write effectful code in JavaScript (e.g. for interop or platform features without native elm support like local storage) but these too are "at the edge".

Functional programming: "perform side effects at the boundary". React: "perform side effects anywhere in your view tree". What would React look like if it was pure? Perhaps something like Cycle.js?
